Chance Please :)

Hey! I come from a small public school in rural Oklahoma. I am African American, first generation, and come from a lower middle class family. My course load in high school was as rigorous as I could make it, but wasn't super great do to my schools restrictions. My school offers no AP classes and I have taken 4 college classes (speech, humanities, composition I and II), but I haven't been able to load up on them because they are really expensive and my family can't afford it. Due to particularly hard times, I'm not taking any my second semester of my senior year. I've taken the highest level courses my high school has to offer, and there isn't a whole lot left for me to take :/. I also think my essays were pretty good. I tried to be as real as possible.

The Schools I'm applying to are Amherst, Barnard, Bowdoin, Columbia, Dartmouth, Duke, Swarthmore, UNC, Vassar, WashU StL, Wellesley, Williams, Yale, University of Oklahoma, and a regional University as my super safety (know I'll get accepted and I know it'll be completely free lol). I've applied to all of them regular decision because I'm scared of contracts and I wanted to have as much time as possible to perfect my application so I avoided early action. I was wondering what my chances were to each school. I love all of these schools and I would love to go to one of them. Also, I'm not sure if this boosts admissions chances or not, but I was a DIVOH kid for Amherst, Wash U flew me up for discovery weekend, and I also got a grant to visit Wellesley. Any advice would be appreciated!

Oh! and I forgot to mention it, I’ll chance back :)

I think being valedictorian will get you into most of the schools listed; the obvious exceptions are Columbia, Yale, and Duke. Duke you probably will get in; say a match. Columbia and Yale are reaches for anyone and they’d probably like to see a 34+ ACT. But, with a little luck, I’d say you’re in those Ivies.

Edit: sorry, I didn’t actually see that you were African-American. Umm, I don’t mean to be offensive at all, or anything, but, with your stats, being an URM will push you into any Ivy you want.

I think your situation actually benefits you a lot here. I would call the ivies and duke reaches, barnard, swarthmore and wellesley high matches and the rest low matches. Your obviously a dedicated person who made the best of an unusual situation, just show the colleges that!

Chance me back? Just look on my profile the one about matches safeties and reaches, thanks!

Thank you guys! I appreciate it :). It’s hard to get a good base on what it takes to get in or not where I come from. I don’t have anyone around me to talk to about it :/. I know one kid who goes to UNC, but I barely know him and he’s the only one, so I’m limited on advice.

@withoutausername, I did it for you :)

Not only are you African American, but Oklahoma is an under-represented region. Your academic record is solid, and you’ll almost surely get into top-tier schools. Good luck.

@Cirroalex, thank you :)

Your minority and home situation put you in a very good situation.

Amherst: good chance
Barnard: good chance
Bowdoin: good chance
Columbia: lesser chance, but not bad
Dartmouth: lesser chance, but not bad
Duke: lesser chance
UNC: good chance
Williams: reach
Yale: reach

You are going to stand out. The colleges should know that your school may have not offered the APs and what not and you are valedictorian that is great.
sat could be a bit higher though
great shot at most of the schools
chance me?

Thanks :). I’m not even submitting my SAT because I know I didn’t do well on it. I only took it for National Achievement and didn’t really want to study (no one cares about the SAT here lol). Plus, i knew my ACT was pretty good so I just decided to keep up with that, and ease my stress by not taking so many test my senior year lol

And Chance Done! lol

what happened to my post

…???

WashU and Yale will be reaches for everyone with these stats, but you have great ECs and honors so that’ll definitely help you out!
