That's all I can remember for right now. If anything else comes to mind, I'll post again.

Thanks!

I think you have an excellent chance of being admitted and awarded a merit scholarship as well.

Show interest and you are in!

As an alumnus of the U of R, I would say that the school would be lucky to have you. If you really want to go there, apply early decision and check into all sorts of scholarships. Your stats are really good and you might also want to look at schools like the University of Chicago, etc. as well. But the U of R is a great school if you can stand the weather.

Chicago is colder than Rochester. ROC has more snow.

^^ I like the fact that Rochester has more snow, and I like the fact that the north in general is colder than down here in the south. The southern heat is absolutely MISERABLE to me (some like it; I hate it).

U of R and Northwestern are my main choices. Yale is in there too, but I'm not quite sure about that, so it's not at the top of my list. Some backup schools I have are University of Minnesota and the University of Wisconsin (maybe this one is not entirely a backup school, but it's another school to apply to just in case).

Um... My stats were about the same if not below yours, and I got in with almost a full-tuition scholarship. May I ask, why Rochester when you could do so much "better"? Of course, it's an excellent school for what I'm going into (medicine, music), but what attracts you to it in particular?

I just visited rochester and I really liked it.
the people were not only very very nice but as a whole the school seems like they could care less about US news and whatnot. they seem to try and find the best students for there school. not just the best of the best of the best to make there stats look really high.
so to me it seems like they are much more focused on quality of education than their rep. some other schools i visited seems to be kinda obssessed with how they with going up in ranking and whatnot.

the atmosphere at UofR is really cool too. it is very very collabrative and I would not say competitive or cut-throat at all.

as for the you could do better i think the OP probably has a program, feel that they are looking for that the school fulfills.

As for chances i would say you are in especially with high scores like you have and possible with a scholorship. just make sure to show interest. i think they are big on that.
i would take a large chunk of money at rochester over "the elite schools"
rochester is a great eduation without the pretension that comes with a lot fo other schools

"Of course, it's an excellent school for what I'm going into (medicine, music), but what attracts you to it in particular?"

The Eastman School of Music --> I want to go into Music Performance, and Eastman is tied with Indiana and Juilliard at #1 (for the entire music program overall). Northwestern is also in the mix (like #7 for the overall music program, but I'm a low brass guy, and Northwestern is right there too). For low brass (trombone in my case), Juilliard is #1 (obviously), Northwestern is #2, Eastman and Indiana are close (more or less tied for #3)... anyone who graduates from any of these schools for music has no problem finding high quality music jobs.

I'm applying to all of these places, too, so hopefully I can get into 1 of these 4. Plus, I have other back-up schools that are pretty good for undergrad, so if I go to those places for undergrad, I can most-likely make it into these places for grad school.

Hey, DavieWeinberg, how much exactly did you get? At least $35,000 or so? (if it costs $50,000 total per year and you said you got almost full tuition, and since tuition is $37,000, I'm assuming you got at least that much money -- that was a weirdly-worded sentence, sorry)

And, Rochester [Eastman] is more realistic because I can get money from there (hopefully, I can get the Renaissance scholarship thing and get full tuition! I hope). Northwestern usually isn't too great on money (no merit-based, so it's all need-based and loans and stuff like that). I don't know about Juilliard (7% acceptance rate anyway [worse than Harvard!], so that's more of a dream school for me). And Indiana raised their tuition and dropped their scholarship money for out-of-state people (which is really stupid....). The max I can get there is like $10,000, and it NOW costs $38,000 a year (yeah, for a public university that's like #75 on the rankings; it doesn't make too much sense to me). I don't know, there's just something about Rochester that really clicks with me (hey, it's a lot better than the University of Arkansas, the state where I live; I'll do anything to avoid that college, especially since I have a high ACT score [the average is like a 23 at the U of A.. hm... no.])
