Question: Do I seem to have a good shot for EA? Because I have another ED app that I'm working on, and I want to defer my Caltech app to RD if my chance for EA is not high enough. I would really appreciate the replies, and thanks in advance.

I’ll say just have a go at EA! The worst thing that can happen is that you’ll be deferred to the RD pool. With you stats, I can’t see you being rejected for EA.

resilient193, if the OP applies EA, she would get at least a “deferred”, not “rejected”, especially since the OP has good SAT scores, AIME, and an internship to count for. It is very likely that the OP would probably get into Harvey Mudd should she apply for ED/RD. So perhaps the OP would like to cast her net wider and apply EA. That way, even if she realize that Caltech is a better fit for her than Harvey Mudd, she can still choose to attend Caltech and wouldn’t have to be bound by the ED contract.

^ But if she’s applying to her dream school (maybe an ivy), ED is probably better instead of flinging chances at multiple EA schools (which have extremely competitive applicant pool). Was the Harvey Mudd just an example… she didn’t mention where she’ll be applying for ED.

oh btw resilient193, are you applying to Caltech this year? If so, all the best! If you need any help, just pm me, I’ll be glad to lend my assistance! (:
