Considering your excellent GPA, ECs, and URM status, I’d say you’re definitely in if you pull off a good SAT or ACT score (2000+ or 30+) and apply ED. As of right now your ACT score is at the 25%tile threshold and could be slightly better. Make sure you show interest in your application though, especially if you apply RD because Emory is very concerned about admitting students that will actually matriculate, which is what almost all of the supplemental part of the application is for. Emory is one of those colleges that gets many applications from “overqualified” students who consider Emory as their safety and have no intent on attending, and the adcoms WILL waitlist or reject someone who fits that description in favor of a much less-qualified student who sincerely wants to attend, so make sure you do something to show interest if you don’t apply ED.

I agree with collegestu816. If the OP gets the 1200~1300 SAT (CR/W) or 30+ ACT, I would predict that, with her minority status, she will get accepted to ALL of her colleges.

Being all serious, I think the OP can even try for top notch Ivy league schools like harvard, yale, columbia etc.

^ I would, but I can’t afford those schools. I pushing it with Emory…

I would be surprised if you were rejected by any of the schools on your list. Your record is very impressive. If financial concerns are a factor for you, you should concentrate your efforts on scholarship and financial aid opportunities. I wouldn’t assume that the ivy school will be less affordable than Emory.

I think that you should email the Emory multicultural recruitment counselor. According to the Emory website, this is Tim Fields. His profile is currently featured at the admissions counselors website, and he sounds like he enjoys helping people.

What would I ask him in an e-mail though?

The purpose of your initial email should be to simply make him aware of you and your interest in Emory, and see what type of response you get. It would be nice to build a rapport, as I’m sure he could be an ally. Emory does sound like a good fit for you with your interests in medicine and the CDC. You do need to think of a good question as an ice-breaker. Why not describe yourself and ask him about scholarship and financial aid opportunities for African Americans? Keep in mind that his title suggests that he would want to hear from you. PM me if you want me to proofread and make suggestions.
