Chance & Safety

My chances and any other possible safety universities?

I am trying to transfer out of the University of Hawaii as a junior transfer applicant.

My stats:
Environmental studies, Economics major
university GPA=3.62
HS GPA=3.7 (UW)
SAT= (480v, 720m, 500w)

Lots of extracurricular activities
Strong essays
Japanese nationality

Applying to:
MHC, scripps, pitzer, wellesley, william and mary, AU, UCB

What are my chances at these schools and any suggestion of possible safety universities? preferabbly public schools...

UCB is going to be near impossible since you're OOS, have a comparatively low GPA, and are Asian. Sorry. It's the truth.

I don't really know about MHC, Scripps, Pitzer, or AU - W&M has a high acceptance rate, but it's OOS as well. I'd call it a high match. Wellesley also has a high acceptance rate (near 40%?) for such a great college, but I have a feeling your combination of GPA and SAT will cause you to be rejected.

It is likely that the schools I'm not as familiar with (Mount Holyoke, American U.) are going to be matches.

Thank you for reply brand_182!

Yes, I dont think I would get into UCB since Im OOS. and wellesley is a big reach for me.

Im thinking like
william and mary, MHC, Scripps= match
pitzer, AU= low match

What do you think about University of Washington? another OOS, though.
Should I consider retaking SAT? I took it two years ago and I have one more chance to retake in January. I thought it doesnt really matter since Im a junior...

a 1700 looks really bad...

I really do think you should keep Wellesley.

And yes, your predictions are about right, in my opinion. Although the SATs don't matter as much, you can still give yourself more academic credibility by considerably increasing your scores in the Verbal and Writing sections. I think those scores (500 or lower) will be a big red flag at W&M. Improving them will prove that you are perfectly capable of performing at a college level in those subjects.

Univ of Washington - I am not too familiar with it either, but I have a friend that was recently accepted from my CC and she had a GPA similar to yours. I would imagine you've got a good shot there as well, and Washington is beautiful.

Definitely give UCB a try if you want, but realize that the UC system is incredibly inclusive - as in, the order of priority for transfer applicants is:

1) California Community College Students
2) UC and other Cali students
3) OOS students

and that MANY of the transfer spots end up being filled by the CCC applicants.

I guess I should retake SAT...

Thank you for your suggestions!
