Hi. I'm a rising senior looking to go to grad school for a Ph. D. in Materials Science and Engineering.

Major: Chemistry
GPA: 3.35
So thats a bit of a low GPA, but it is a little above average for my major at Harvey Mudd.

I've done two REUs, one at HMC and one at Cornell in materials related chemistry. I'll be doing a senior thesis in the coming year. I might have a paper published from last summer and this summer is looking promising, but those are still in the works.

I think my letters of rec are good, and I haven't taken my GREs, but I've always been good at tests.

Anyway, my top choices right now are Stanford and UCSB.
What are some good criteria to judge mid level schools on? For college I just applied to the best engineering schools, but I don't think I can do that for grad school.
