Chance Someone Different

Pretty simply, my extra-curriculars are the good part, hopefully drowning out a mediocre GPA)
Gender: Male
Race: Israeli
GPA:~90 (84 in 9th grade, 91 in 10th, 93 in 11th, probably same in 12th)
School: competitive private

SAT I (projected based on practice exams): ( 750 CR, 600 M, 750 W)
SAT II: US History 730 (retaking in June), World History (hoping for a 650+), Spanish (~600)

Courses: There are no APs in my school, and most courses are much more difficult than usual. However, I am taking an advanced chemistry class (though im never going into it), and holding about a 90 (which ain't easy!).

EC's: definitely my strong point. admittedly, I spend much more time on my life outside the classroom, and I am proud of that. I already know what I want to do (work in DC and serve the people!), and I am very determined to go and get that goal.

Competitions:
--Winner, NYTV8 “Why Voting Is Important” Speech Competition at Columbia, 2009--
--School Winner, American Mathematics Competition (AMC 12A) (i think this is good because my math grades haven't been my strong point, and my math SAT is weak)

And finally, this past November I broke a national news story featured on the AP, Washington Post, CBS, UK Guardian, etc. Rubio Ad in Fla. Senate Race Mimics Obama Ad - ABC News
Anyway, the experience will most likely be the subject of my essay. You can read about the experience at Mediaite here: My 2009 New Media Revolution | Mediaite

I know. My grades are not that great, and my SATs are not perfect. The regular person will look at the grade and immediately be dismissive. I'm asking for you to really look into it, because I'm hoping I can be an anomaly in a process that has become so computerized and inhuman.

Please chance me for
Georgetown
JHU
GWU
American
NYU
Tufts
Northwestern
Fordham
George Mason
UPenn

And if you have any other suggestions...I'm all ears!
Thanks so much!

okay. in my opinion…

safeties:american, fordham, george mason
ranges: gwu, tufts-ish
reaches: georgetown, jhu, nyu, NW, penn

i’d say you’d probably have a shot at jhu and nyu. gtown, NW and penn… are going to be tough; i’d say no for those guys.

i strongly suggest you have a math score over at least 650 (if you’re scoring 600s now), though ideally that would be over 700.

don’t count on being an anomaly: some crazy kid they randomly decided to accept… give them a reason to accept you.

don’t forget about the essay.

Wonderful ECs. My only concern - no APs, yet your GPA and SAT are still pretty poor. Not to sound rude, but are you sure you can handle a top tier school?

Based on what you have here, Fordham, GM, and NYU are all within your grasp. The other schools are probably going to take serious issue with those grades.

^^
We have no AP’s. All classes are supposed to be AP-level. But if it helps for perspective, last year’s seniors were accepted to schools like Georgetown, Swarthmore, Yale, Cornell (a couple of times), JHU (also a couple of times), U of Chicago, Oberlin, etc.
We’ve had public school kids come in with 4.0s and leave with C’s.

bumpbumpbump

bumpbump
I’d really appreciate anything!

Georgetown - reach
JHU - reach
GWU - match
American - in
NYU - low reach
Tufts - high match
Northwestern - reach
Fordham - in
George Mason in
UPenn - reach

your grades are ehhh for some of these schools… you should try to bring up your math SAT, since its the easiest section to improve on. Your ECs look good, so keep it up, write a solid essay, and you should have a fair chance.
