Schools you plan on applying to:
Michigan!

Strong match.

Low match. Congrats!!!
What is your intended major?

Thanks guys! I intend to major in an Engineering field, maybe EECS or ChemE.

How do you feel about UC Berkeley?

I’ll try to get some stronger ECs and apply to HSM just for the heck of it lol. Anyways, thanks!

Berkeley is just as strong academically as UM (maybe better) without Michigan weather.

Try to improve your essay. That would bring up your writing score in SAT. You are doing great disregarding you are a sophomore. You may consider MIT, Caltech, Stanford and other top schools for engineering too, although UMich is not bad either. These schools are very competitive, however, you do have a chance. ChemE is the weakest link in UMich and yet it is still ranked 13. For ChemE, you may consider U Minnesota and U Wisconsin too. Both have even higher ranking than UMich.

You’re definitely in. You should probably look into MIT and Caltech, but Michigan is solid for engineering (coming from an incoming freshmen doing ChemE). And since you’re in-state, why spend twice as much for another school (or even more if you’re considered for merit-based scholarships a Mich) when you can get the ideal college experience, academically and socially, at Mich?

Strong Match, if you can get those SAT and ACT scores. and just curious, but what piece are you on? (I’m a violinist too :D)

Thanks everyone!

@lastspartan I’m doing the Mendelssohn right now! Working it up for an audition for a summer camp in July. What are you playing?

I’m back! Thanks for the suggestions. I looked into the schools you suggested and I suppose I might as well apply for them, even if theres a little chance I may get in.

Some questions though: What do you think my chances are for merit aid at UMich? Also, does NHD national finalist for a website (10th place) qualify as something I should list even if it happened in 8th grade?

Thanks in advance!

bump 10char

I’m working on the mendelssohn and the zigeunerweisen. Wanna chance me?

Sorry to bump this again, but can anyone chance me for merit aid at UMich? Thanks!

If you keep up your stuff, you are a shoe in.

I’m just commenting because I’m also an in-state sophomore (well, rising junior) and I saw that you were at MYAF - I was a clarinetist in the band, and two of my friends (also sophomores) played violin in the orchestra.

You’re pretty much in at U-M unless you screw up junior year, I think. And judging from some people I know who got scholarships, you would get pretty decent merit aid. A person with similar stats got something like $8-10k/year, but I’m not really sure what the process is for determining that.
