I KNOW MY SATs ARE LOW, BUT READ THE OTHER STUFF AND LET ME KNOW WHAT YOU THINK. THANKS SO MUCH! AND GOOD LUCK TO YOU ALL!

if from oregon great chances at all

you are in

^^ what an irresponsible reply. "you are in". yeah right

i say you'll be rejected by HYP. good chances at the rest

I think (I am a parent, so take it for what it's worth) you probably have a better chance at Princeton. Princeton is recruiting performing art students, and they need to admit 30% engineering major. President of Princeton gave an interview on her 5 year plan, and that's what she stated. I don't know if you have submitted an art supplement to Princeton, which from what I have heard is very helpful.

Yes, oldfort, I did submit a photography portfolio. Thank you for your kind words of wisdom. They're certainly confidence boosters. And thank you to all for your comments thus far. Good luck everyone.

Sorry, but I think your SATs are a problem for your whole list except maybe Rice.

Really, suze? I mean, I know they're no where near the SATs that are so frequently seen on CC, but isn't important to consider the college's AVERAGE SAT scores, into which I fall near the lower end of the midrange? I mean, Yale's SAT range--the highest of the schools to which I've applied--is still somewhat close to my scores with the midrange for the Math and Verbal sections being between 700 and 780. I understand what you're saying, but do you really think it precludes my chances at every single college except Rice? SATs aren't everything, ya know.

Sorry, bump

Here's the problem: 60% of every ivy class is comprised of hooked candidates. Legacies, URMs, development candidates, the conected (faculty kids, politician kids) and athletes. They are the ones that bring down the averages, not the average guy on the street.

So when you look at up to date scores, Dartmouth's average is 1480 old. That mean the VAST majority of the unhooked will have a score higher than that.

Then you have fine ECs but nothing exceptional. Your rank is good, but not great. And this is the hardest year in history to get into top colleges. Just my opinion, but I think it will be tough here.

Read "The Price of Admission."

I disagree with suze on every point as usual besides the observation that you don't really have standout EC's. Your scores/grades/rank definitely put you in the running but I think you will need to write really good essays and get glowing recs to have a decent shot at say HYP. All you can do is sit back and wait now so enjoy those last few months of senior year!!

If you get rejected from those Ivies you are applying to, it is NOT going to because of your test scores. It's going to be because there were too many other competitive applicants out there and you got the short end of the stick.

Anyway...

Harvard-Reach
Princeton (Engineering)-Slight Reach
Stanford-Reach
Brown (PLME)-Reach
Dartmouth-Slight Reach
Amherst-Low Match
Rice-Match
Pomona-High Match

I hope that helped!!!

Evil, you keep posting that scores don't matter, that 700s are fine for ivies, yet the common data sets PROVE you wrong!! Have a read.

now it comes down to a debate on what is statistically significant...ahh

Talking to a friend of mine, who knows a lot about college, that's all Ill say, told me that SAT scores are inflated in the ranges. Many colleges, when computing the scores, keep many of the minority and athlete numbers out, especially at small schools, in order to keep their numbers higher.

Thank you, all, for you comments. I appreciate, especially, evilasiandictator's comment and insight. Again, good luck to you all.

I think your scores make you a legitimate candidate for the ivies. My scores were in the same range as you and I didn't do too bad in my admissions. I agree with evil's chances.

oh really? so is this a game of who compliments you the most? well, i say you have no chance at HYP. evil thinks score is unimportant cause he's bitter about his own subject test scores

Sorry, psychotickevin...I guess what I was trying to say came out wrong. I was just commenting that I appreciate evilasiandictator's qualifying my chances and giving me constructive feedback, something which you have failed to do. I'm sorry you're so easily-offended and testy. Good luck to you, nonetheless.
