  • Common App Essay: There was a period in China where some Chinese would discriminate Koreans (not let them in shops, bakeries; fights break out in pubs) because of THAAD deployment in Korea. I wrote about that experience as a Korean who has been living in China for almost 16 years now. I wrote about how heartbreaking it was to see two nations turn back to each other but how I eventually still chose to keep my faith in humanity through a volunteering experience where I was giving out eggs, flour, and rice to Chinese elderly people in need.

-Supplements: I think they’re pretty interesting. I really tried to “show” not “tell” and include some humor in them.

I did take the new sat but the score isn’t high enough so I’m not planning to send it.
Do you think sending only one old sat score will hurt my chance?

If you want more info about THAAD, you could go check it out on this website: https://www.cnbc.com/2017/03/17/thaad-anti-missile-system-makes-china-lash-out-at-south-korea.html

And in NO WAY am I trying to say that ALL Chinese people were horrible to Koreans. Just a minority of people with strong patriotism and strong political views. And I totally understand why they would be upset with Korea.

I think you have a good shot. Tufts is selective enough that it is impossible to say for sure.

I think you have a really good chance for ED2 @mudbloodforlife

I will say that be very careful about any political biases in your essay…it’s perfectly okay to share your lived experience but just be mindful that you know nothing about the folks reading your essay and what their views (if any) might be. Maybe get reads from people with no prior knowledge of the situation and get their feedback?

The one thing to put some effort into now is your Tufts supplements. If you apply ED 2 you’re already making a commitment to attend, so they know you like the school. The supplements should reflect why…

My S goes to Tufts and loves it there! Good Luck with your application!

@silver67 Yeah I did get feedback from other people and they seemed to really like the essay. I don’t really talk about my political views, but rather just descriptions of what situation I was put in, how I didn’t feel safe in a city I spent my whole childhood in, and how I ultimately learned a lesson from it.

Anyways, thank you for your reply! I really really do hope to get in. I’m not keeping my expectations too high though…I don’t want to feel too devastated if I get rejected. :-S

It should be fine then @mudbloodforlife and make for a great (and unique) essay! Hope you get in!!!

Hi. Current Tufts student here. I was admitted with a very similar profile. I’d say high match/low reach ED2 (70% chance). You have a very good chance, but it the essays can still determine whether you will get you in or not. Good luck.

@silver67 thank you!

@Dawala282 Ahh you help me ease my worries a little. Thanks!
