Hey guys just wondering what the chances for my friend are... he's a rising junior and is eager to know his chances for M.I.T. and Princeton

SAT: 2120 (700W, 800M, 620CR)
SAT II: Math II (790), Chem (800), Bio (790), Physics (800), World Hist (720)
AP: 5,5,5,5,5,4,3
Courseload: Heavy science and math
Rank: 20/700-ish

AMC 10 (130), AMC 12 (126), AIME 6 (2 questions off from USAMO)
USNCO qualifier
USAPHO quarterfinal

-Chess club (prez)
-Business club (secretary)
-Skilled in several programming languages
-Math Club
-Self-study Oraganic Chem, Physical Chem
-Self-study multivar. calc., dif eq. linear alg.

-Summer research at prestigious local program (at local university) - 30 hrs/week/10 weeks

-plan to qualify for isef with research and get siemens semi/final

Race: Brown
Gender: Male

Yeah... and he's a couple years young for his grade

He has impressive self-study credentials and competition results. The Subject Test scores look great, but the Citical Reading score on the SAT will hurt him. As a general rule of thumb, one wants to keep all sections at 700 or above for top schools. A 620 is damaging.

I would make the bold claim that his chances would double if he pulled his SAT score nearer to 2300.

First, no one cares about his age, he will be compared to the applicant pool purely on his application.

What prestigious local program? Does he live next to RSI?

Where is the evidence for the self-studies.
USNCO qualifier=top 20? Or are you talking about the top 1000.

No one cares about USAPhO quarterfinals.

Why does he have a 3 on an AP test.

The SAT is terrible.

What is his GPA.
How do you “plan to qualify for siemens finals”. That’s absurd, unless he has some completely ingenious paper.

Also, since he’s Indian, his math/science ECs/academics makes him seem average.

MIT and Princeton are Reaches for him.
There’s nothing special. Where are his volunteer positions and leadership positions?
President of Chess club is not a legit leadership position.

What field does he want to go to? This is a pretty average science/math application.

^cool, i was thinking age would hurt him

prestigious as in selective in local area

USNCO top 1000

trust me, 1 3 will not make or break (it was WHAP)

will bring up CR, he has time to bring up (only junior now)

(gpa: ~3.85-3.9 UW)

…lol, "mistype semifinal.

wants to go in science field. and not average in the sense that he self-studied coulpe of difficult courses
