Any feedback would be appreciated so so much.
Demographic:
I am a middle-class Asian male living in California. I go to a highly competitive public school in the Bay Area.
Major:
Either one of these is fine. Although I would really prefer Computer Science or Computer Engineering.
- Electrical Engineering
- Mechanical Engineering
- Computer Engineering
- Computer Science
Colleges
- UIUC
- Georgia Tech
- UT Austin
- UC’s
- Purdue
- UMich
- USC (Socal)
- Rice
- CMU
- Cornell
GPA:
- In my district GPA is on a 4 point scale and weighed on a 5, but my school does not submit and/or report weighted.
- 3.80 UW after junior year. Got a 4.0 my first semester of junior year. Likely to happen again as all my classes get easier
- 4.1 W approximately
Standardized Tests:
- SAT 1580 (790 Math, 790 Writing and Reading, 17 Essay)
- SAT Math II 800
- I am planning on taking the SAT Chemistry II during June. Hoping to get around 750+.
APs:
- My school has a history of over preparing you for the AP tests, so I would assume that I would get either a 4 or 5 for the
AP's I am currently taking
- Junior: AP Chemistry, AP Calculus AB, AP Comp Sci
- Senior: Unsure which ones I’ll take, probably AP Stats, AP Gov, AP Econ, AP Physics C and E&M
EC’s:
I would say my EC’s are pretty weak because until Junior year I just fooled around and played a lot of games and -
watched anime. I’d appreciate if anyone has some guidance on what I should focus on for the rest of junior year and
senior year to make up for this.
- Play sport for the school team (don’t want to mention), Varsity all 4 years, Non-NCAA
- USACO Gold, aiming for Plat in January
- JROTC, starting in January
- Over 100 hours volunteering at a STEM museum
- Club leadership for small clubs in my school
LOR (Possibilities):
- AP Comp Sci teacher, 10/10 — we’re very close. I have had him for 2 years, including junior year, and I TA for his intro
to java class and often talk to him about computer science.
- AP Chem teacher, (7/8/9)/10 — Generally gives good recs to those who work hard, show enthusiasm in chemistry, and
often participate. I don't clearly know where I lie on his spectrum, wheater I am a 7/8/9, but I believe I am in that range.
One thing I have a question about is if I should get a LOR from a humanities teacher instead of another STEM teacher.
Since I am gonna apply for an engineering major I am not entirely sure if I should get 2 STEM or 1 STEM and
Humanities.
