-I often went a Family owned Ranch to Deal with literally the Texas Stereotype... does that count?
-I traveled to Guatemala, China, Japan, Canada, and Philippines over summers (does that count too lol?)
-I played Soccer through most of high school
-I went to Chinese Sunday School out of Choice
-I've been hunting (does this even count???) various time and know how to comfortably shoot an AK47
-I volunteer at a Hospital
-VP for NHS

Other:
I tested out of Spanish, and learned Chinese at the Sunday school... the languages I hope will really distinguish me

I applied to schools:
UT Austin
Rice
UC Berkeley (please tell me I have a good chance)
MIT (my 2nd choice)
Univ. Penn
UC Riverside
UCLA
A&M College Station
UM Ann Arbor (my father went here so maybe a slight leg up?)
USC
UC Irvine

I want to go into business...do I have a decent shot at any of them that aren't in Texas???
ARGH!! soo NERVOUS!!!

When I mean Texas Stereotype... I mean Home Improvement (Kitchen Ceramics, grouting, plumbing, etc), Cattle (yes...cattle feeding and what not), Hunting and Hiking around...we would see rattle snakes at times:D...haha... Texas Stereotype...

Yeah I agree with hoonose. But also in response to your ECs, I'm not so sure all of them are ECs. Traveling to other countries, going to a ranch, and hunting really aren't ecs. Maybe hunting if you did like a hunting club or something or did it consistently. Maybe incorporate all the traveling into your essay if you want to mention that? just an idea

I'll stick with the gun...they not really all that scary...when I first started out I was scared but one you shoot a couple of times and know what to expect it's really quite fun ^^... I'm not a wacko...guns aren't deadly...people are...Gun control is hitting what your aiming at anyways.
although it might freak out the people @ Berkeley huh? HAHAHAHA....
oh and I also do Archery...I have a bow and everything...a professional one (and a less serious one) does that go into my ECs too?
How do I incorporate traveling to all these various different countries, my family ranch, and hunting into an essay?
3rd opinions?
What would help me get into these other colleges(besides an awesome essay)...What could've I done to have a better chance too...

bump agAain...PLEZZZZZZZZZZZ, need more opinions..I want tons of them...If if you have no Idea what your talking about... Anyone!!!!
which ones are safteys? which ones are matches??? how much of a reach do I need to each one?

I think UCBerkeley is a low reach, the UCs are mainly good for in-state kids, but I think you'll have a 60 percent chance cause u have good SAT, leadership, volunteer, top 10 percent of class...i really have no idea about this school
I think you have no chance for MIT and UPenn

But I think you will make it into UMichigan, UT Austin, Texas A and M, UC Irvine, UC Riverside

I think you also have a 60 percent chance for Rice, 90 percent chance for USC

I don't know my UC GPA... do you mean just my sophomore and Junior year? then i think about 3.9 -ish...
I sent my ACT only to the public Texas ones... which are A&M and Austin... and I think UC Riverside...which I don't really know why I applied to when I think of it... probably cause I really wana move out of Texas, I like it but I'm sure you people are all familiar with the want for change.
so do I have like no Chance at MIT???? wahhhhhh
I was still considering it over Berkeley...
I never wanted to go to univ. Penn, it never lit my fire... I think i was like my 7th choice...
My Order goes:
1)UCB/MIT
3)UCLA
4)Rice
5)UC Irvine
6)UT Austin
7)Univ Penn.
8)USC
9)UM Ann Arbor
10)UCR
11)Texas A&M...ick I applied cause Its public and I'm an instater...and its a pretty good school...but...ick...LOL

KEEP THEM COMING, I want to be drowned with opinions...even if you don't know what the heck you're talking about...

UC out-of-state admissions are a crap shoot...especially Berkeley and UCLA.

Your UC GPA will be only sophomore and junior year grades in the core academic subjects (UC calls 'em a-g subjects)...check the website.

Since your UC GPA is strong and your SAT is good, you do have a pretty good chance IF you wrote compelling essays. But, realize OOS admissions to top UCs are in the 10-15% acceptance range.

I know you want to move out of Texas and explore something new. I assume your intended major is engineering since you have MIT and Berkeley on your list. Honestly, if you want to do engineering, I would not pay enormous OOS tuition just to go to Berkeley or UCLA. MIT, if you get in, will be more helpful with financial aid...MIT just announced that tuition is waived for family income under $75k. If you got into MIT, I'd choose it. Berkeley is not going to give you the same financial aid.

If you want to pursue engineering, there is little premium paid to grads from top programs. UT-Austin has a top-rated engineering program and will save you tons of money. If I were you, I'd have UT as No. 1 on the list. Besides, UT has much better looking women than Berkeley does...;)

As a Berkeley alum, I love OOS students wanting to attend...But, from a financial perspective, I don't think it'll be the best choice.

Actually I have this big Book of Colleges by US News, they say both Berkeley and UCLA's acceptance rate is about 25%(Berkeley 24% and UCLA 25%)...total...in and out of state...I think Berkeley's out of state acceptance is like 11-12% and UCLA about 25%...(24%)...
I actually considered Engineering, and still might...but I went with Business now...MIT Sloan is good I hear, and so is UM Ann Arbor, Univ Penn (Wharton), and Berkeley (Hass)... I also hear UTA (McCombs) is top notch...

I don't think I'm fit(or eligible) for Financial aid though...which SUCKS...and at the same time I feel bad for wanting to take advantage of the System.

lack of APs is the only negative i see. and try to glamorize ec's but good luck at all.......berkely ucla and mit are all reaches though just cuz theyre all really competitive

^
wha????
I thought IB was supposed to be just as hard or harder then AP....
AP wasn't offered until Junior year...its been that way at my school...
I took the hardest courses available!

Okay. All of your choices are good for business as well.

Keep in mind though, Berkeley's Haas school of business only accepts students at the junior level, and admission is competitive - only half of the Berkeley applicants get in. As a freshman, you apply to Berkeley as "Undecided - Pre-Business". Then, you have to complete a very specific courseload during your freshman and sophomore year...Haas admission looks at grades in these courses. If you don't get into Haas, you'll need to major in something else, like Economics.

The bottom line is, even if you get into Berkeley, there are no guarantees you'll get into Haas and graduate with a business administration degree.

If you want business, I'd put U Penn back on the top of your list. Wharton is by far the top program.

Even still, with in-state tuition, UT-Austin will likely be your cheapest choice.
Don't feel bad about filling out the FAFSA and getting the aid you need.

Wait until acceptances come in and financial aid offers are awarded. The choice will become much more clearer for you.

If you want to come to CA, I'd actually recommend USC for business. USC has a top undergrad business program, strong alumni base, and gives better financial aid to OOS students.

UCLA does not offer a formal undergraduate business degree...that's why it's not in the rankings. You can, however, major in a program called business-economics.

Football is fun, I played in 8th grade...it was awesome.
but, my parents wanted me to stop cause I broke my pinky, and they said things could've taken a turn for the worse...which they did...the last game I broke my pinky, the next weekend I broke my foot...3 bones...BAM!
But what really turned it off was the fact that one of our 7th graders ran this guy over and I think he was paralyzed...what ever the case and ambulance showed up...that is serious enough...
anyways, football is not everything and even if it was I would want to go to UT.
everyone around here hates A&M anyways...LOL
I'll still keep my eyes out for Berkeley, but wow Junior?!?!?!?!
thats discouraging... I definitely want to put MIT in my number one spot...
What about UCI?
I hear it has a nice business program, or is it 2nd tier?
Univ. Penn doesn't light my fire still...every one here says its impossible and like I don't know...
UCLA I knew had a minor In business but I still hear its good, but I guess it should be more towards the bottom like Berkeley.
What about UCI and UCR?
UT sounds more and more friendly LOL...but I still wanna leave the state not live 4 or 6 hours away....I do like UT...hmm, are there schools I should've applied to that I didn't?
