Please let me know what you think about my chances. My school sends about 1 student to Ivy each year. Getting very little help from school. They are too worried about students getting in State schools.

Chances at:
HYPS
Penn
Virginia
Penn
UNC
Duke
Stanford SCEA

Your ECs, scores, gpa, everying--perfectly stereotypical for a HYPS applicant. It's completely hit or miss, don't count on admission to any one of HYPS.

UVA and UNC are high matches. Duke and Penn are low reaches.

If everything comes together, strong recs and good app, I think you would get into an ivy below HYP or that caliber. Arkansas, 35, decent ECs should get you into at least one. Your problem at HYPS is not being val or sal which admits from less competitive schools usually are.

I know all this right now is a guessing game, but I still am trying to decide about SCEA. If anyone else has advice on what to improve, play up, or delete let me know. Thanks

A 2240 is fine, you'llsee, I really don't think you know what you're talking about. If that were a 690 CR you wouldn't say anything--believe it or not, not everybody has to get 800s in math to get into good schools.

HYPS - I'd say you'll get into 1 out of these 4 if you're really lucky.
Penn - Reach (they like students from underrepresented states)
Virginia - Match
Penn (State?) - Safety
UNC - Low Match
Duke - Low Reach/High Match
Stanford SCEA - Don't waste it, ED to a less competitive school unless you really love Stanford b/c the benefit in applying SCEA Stanford is almost negligible.

a) I agree with some other poster who said you are too stereotypical.
b) Don't call yourself a redneck, it sounds almost derogatory.

I don't mean redneck as derogatory, just a statement of fact. I mean we have indoor plumbing, and shoes to wear, but the way of like down here is just different than city folks.

The political correctness patrols are out again. Dont listen to what people tell you that you can call yourself. I think people are being a bit harsh on the odds. You have a shot at HYPS. You are a match-slight reach at Penn because it can be random. I think you will get into Penn and Duke. Everything below them will be no problem. HYPS is a slight reach for everyone, even people with your stats.

Duke: Match
Penn: Match-Slight Reach
Virginia (oos): Safe Match
UNC (oos): Safe match
HYPS: Slight Reach-Reach (only because they are for pretty much everyone)

It deff helps that you are applying from Arkansas. I think you have a good shot at getting into one of HYPS and i think personally that you will likely get into Penn and Duke. You should be good for UNC oos and Virginia oos. Best of luck.

What do you think about U of Chicago? I have seen that they give some merit aid. Do you think I have a chance at that? Or Carolina Scholars? If I can't get in HYPS, I would like to know about good schools that offer merit aid.

HYP- its really a toss up, your application looks very similar to others, you have strong grades, strong EC's/community service (eagle scout) helps a LOT
S- i feel you probably have a better shot than hyp cause stanford doesnt look at your 9th grade grades, and seeing as u have all A's from 10th, you got a 4.0 going for you, hyp, doesnt give this benefit
Penn - reach
Virginia - Low match
UNC - Low Match if not a safety
Duke - Low Reach/High Match
your app would be flawless if you had maybe 1 more thing to make you stand out, but being from the arkansas and an eagle scout are pushing you a great deal already
good luck!
