My running is a big part of my application since I am currently being recruited by other Division 1 schools for cross country that have more competitive programs. Through looking at the times of the cross country team for 2009 at Dartmouth my junior times would put me into contention for a varsity spot already. I know the Ivies can't give out athletic scholarships but anything to help get in is a plus. I also know my AP is a bit lacking compared to some on here, but with going to the rural school that I do and with prerequisites that is about all that is literally possible to take.

SAT Subject Test scores?
If you haven’t taken those yet then you need to take those and score 750+ as well as build up your ACT score. In order to have time to build up your scores, you should apply RD. If you do that though, you should be a solid choice (:

are you in touch with Dartmouth’s coach? Because a certain number of ED spots go to recruited athletes…

I think Dartmouth typically fills it’s XC roster through ED, so if you haven’t been in touch with the coach yet, it’s important that you get in touch as quickly as possible. He’ll be narrowing down his list soon to determine who to offer official visits to. You can fill out the on-line recruiting questionnaire or send an e-mail with your academic and athletic resume attached.

In terms of admission, it probably largely depends on whether or not he feels that you can make a significant contribution to his team and wants to offer you a roster spot. If so, you should request a likely letter which comes from admissions and essentially ensures your acceptance unless something dramatically changes in your application. You might want to repost on the Athletic Recruits forum under College Admissions - there are experienced parents of recruits and recruits themselves who post there who are quite knowledgeable. Good luck!

What are your PRs for the 1600 and 3200?

I would strongly suggest that you post on the Athletic Recruits page of CC: [Athletic Recruits - College Confidential](Athletic Recruits - College Confidential Forums), if you haven’t already. The posters there may have some helpful suggestions about how to present your athletic accomplishments to your best advantage for admission.

Coureur is right. It is hard to compare cross country times as all courses are different…hilly/flat etc. What is an objective measure of your running ability for possible recruitment are your 1600 and 3200 track times. Definitely get in touch with the coach if you are interested ASAP as some recruiting visits are scheduled for the fall. Ben True, a great runner at Dartmouth also competed for the Big Green as a nordic skier. I don’t know if that is something that you are interested in combining, but the coaches worked it our which a lot of other D1 schools probably wouldn’t. Without the coach’s support your ACT score should probably be higher, but with his support it is probably OK. As stated above, even if you use only your ACT for admission puroposes you will need to submit 2 SAT II scores. Best of Luck to you!
