Hello all:
Obviously this is a chance thread, so without further ado, here are my stats. Please be as critical and as dark as you want, I just want to be as realistic as possible.

In state-Bay Area
GPA 10-11 Weighted Uncapped: 4.11
10-11 Weighted Capped: 3.9 (horrible I know)
Unweighted: 3.6
These actually include non-academic classes, and my gpa including academic classes (which are the only classes that I actually reported in my app) maybe be slightly higher, such as a 4.2.
Four AP classes and like 10 honors classes.

5 on Ap spanish test, 3 on APES

SAT: 2040
800 Spanish
630 Math II

EC's:
Sports: 10 years competitive swimming, including 4 years varsity swimming and 4 years varsity water polo at my high school. I was captain of both teams junior and senior years.
Instruments: Piano and piano theory at the CMEA level for 10 years. Also joined the highest level jazz band of my school senior year.
Languages: Fluent in Spanish (went to a Spanish-American school until 4th grade before transferring to a public american school). Took Spanish Ap last year and taking French ap this year. (5 years of high school language courses)
CSF, French honors society, Spanish honors society clubs etc.
Won several awards including the most inspirational swimmer award two years in a row.
Took private latin lessons for 6 years.
Summer swim club for 10 years
220+ hours of community service.
Essays were about the importance of bilingual education and the second one was about my evolution as a leader and director in a special film program at my school. (leadership points, anyone?)

So yea thats about it. I already got rejected at UCLA, so my hopes arent exactly up right now, even though I feel as if I am a better match for cal and I have a better chance there...
thanks

Pretty high reach, I’m sorry to say. The UCs don’t really look much at ECs, and your GPA and SAT scores are significantly below Berkeley’s average. Sorry.

No offense to Stevenf but he really doesnt know what hes talking about (LOL)

Your gpa is great for berkeley a bit low i know but it should be fine. Your SAt score falls at exactly BERKELEY’S average so even then you wont have a problem other than a SLIGHTLY low gpa. Which your excellent extracurriculars make up for. UCLA would be a problem for you as they are harder to get into ever year one after another. But i think you stand a GREAT chance at UC Berkeley.

thank you for your reply!
to stevenf, i believe you are wrong when you say that ucs barely look at your ecs. i have been told over and over again that leadership roles and commitment to ecs will go a long way in admissions. i am on par in terms of my sat score, but you are right when you say my gpa is below average. i think the uncapped average for cal is 4.3, so i am .1 maybe .2 below it. that is what worries me most, but i am hoping that my dedication to my ecs (years of commitment in all of them) will help me immensely. thanks for the reply though.
to schoolissohard, thank you for the kind words! i will definitely chance you back.

anyone else?
do you think that my commitment to my ecs and my leadership roles will make up for my poor gpa?
thank you in advance

Desole, then. I heard from different people they don’t. And I’ve looked at Naviance, and they said Berkeley’s higher SAT scores (the SAT scores are lowered artificially due to people with special circumstances) are over 2100.

I’d agree with Stevenf. Word around my school is that UCs are notorious for being surprisingly statistical; if your stats don’t fall into range, your chances of getting them, especially LA and B, are fairy low (I’m assuming you don’t fall under any ethnic minorities). Also, I hear that UCs tend to disregard your ECs unless the applicants all have good stats.

My chance for you would be: Reach (not high / low, just middle).

Your SAT score is nothing impressive, might meet like, what, the middle 50%? Your GPA is definitely a killer though.
