Hey everyone, new to CC. I am currently a junior and would like to know my chances to certain schools, but mainly I would like advice on improving my ECs.

GPA: 3.92 Unweighted/4.33 Weighted
Rank: 18/500 Unweighted/ 9/500 Weighted
ACT: Have not taken, but was predicted to get 30-32 (Hoping to get around 33 or 34 though)

AP Classes Currently Taking or Plan to Take

AP Chemistry (should get a 5 on test maybe 4)
AP English (probably a 3- not very good at English tests)
AP Biology
AP Calculus
AP Spanish

ECs

This is my main reason for posting, as I know it is a little to early to get my chances at schools without knowing my ACT/AP scores. What I really want is advice on my ECs, as currently they are very weak.

Clubs

Leadership Club 9
Honors Club 10,11 (12)
Math Team 10,11 (12)
Quizbowl 11 (12)

Volunteer

Minimal hospital volunteering, but plan to have 100 hours by graduation

Other

Award from Fermilab for completing a physics program

Schools

Augustana
Knox
Bradley
University of Illinois
University of Michigan
Northwestern
University of Chicago
Washinton University St.Louis

Based on the information above, what do you think my chances are at these schools?

If there is no chance because of lack of ECs then advice on what to do/how to improve would be greatly appreciated.

without standardized test scores, its hard to make a decision. your gpa/courseload looks good. keep up the good work. if you can snag a 33 or 34 on the ACT's then your numbers will be good for all ur schools. you are right - your EC's need some work. find 1 or 2 more clubs you are interested in and join them. try to gain some leadership positions in the clubs you already have - they are valid but mean virtually nothing if you cant emphasize their importance to you. also, it will help you a great deal to find a summer program to participate in. these can really help if you find the experience rewarding.

Hey thanks a bunch, especially for the tips on the ECs. I will try my best to gain leadership spots in my current clubs but unfortunately most are led by seniors. Also, I will find out if I made the NHS this year in a little bit and also my PSAT score, hopefully I will remember to post the results here.

Also, I see a lot of people have research in their ECs. Since I live close to Fermilab, and have already taken a course from them, how do I go about asking them for research oppurtunities?

IN ADDITION: I do not believe I mentioned what I wish to pursue in college. My major will definitely be in the sciences, and right now I am leaning towards Chemistry (Chemical Engineering). I also plan to enroll in a PreMed program. If anyone knows of any good colleges for PreMed/Chemical Engineering that are not on my list feel free to let me know.
