Hi,
What do you think my chances are?
I'm a native Norwegian, not applying for any FA.

Grades/rank:
This term; 8 A's, 2 B's and one C.
Rank: My school doesn't rank but my GC estimated within 10% somewhere.

Essay:
Suppose it was OK. Nothing extraordinary.

Test scores:
TOEFL: 653/677
ACT: 29
SAT II: French 624/World history 648

ECs/Hobbies/sports/work:
Downhill skiing 13 years, at least twice a week throughout each season.
Cross Country skiing, about once one a week each season last 13 years.
Snowboarding, 5-6 years (only occasionally).
I also play soccer and basketball on my spare time.

I work as a cashier at the moment. At the same time I translate letters for a local firm, and help them with computer related issues. I've also worked as a garbage man (on the back of those nasty trucks during one summer). This summer I might go abroad to work.

Recommendations:
Excellent from both GC and another teacher, second teacher gave me a good one.

Let me know what you think I should improve :)
Cheers!

Thanks for your input
Dunno, bad day/lack of preparation.
There’s not much I can do with it now anyway. Is there anything else I should try to improve? (everything ? )

Ok, thanks. Now I’ll have to go through all those damn collegeboard envelopes again and double check, I guess my correct scores were sent even though I misinterpreted the score sheet
Thanks once again.

Don’t worry too much about the SAT II scores- I’ve been told that people applying from foreign schools are given a bit of leeway because they understand that we have a different curriculum (and less preparation). I think the chances of you getting in really depend on your essay and how serious you are about skiing/snowboarding. With those scores and mediocre extra curriculars you don’t have a very good chance- but it is so subjective that you never know…

Unfortunately my school doesn’t offer any EC’s. Not sure when I would have the time either, I usually work after school to 23.00.
I’m not sure if it counts for anything, but I’m also a board member of two companies, which takes up a lot of time.
Thanks for your helpful comment ctownes :)

Has anyone else receive a PRE-acceptance letter, practically guaranteeing acceptance? My son received a letter from the Dean of Admissions stating such

Kristina: Yeah, I understood that Yup, work takes up a lot of time.

My class is pretty competitive, in 2005 when I was admitted you needed a gpa above 4.3 to be enrolled. The year before it was ~2.5 (on a 1-6 scale). Grade deflation is a real issue, very few 6’s are handed out.

carmenhere: Congratulations to you and your son :)
