(Going the ACT path)

ACT: first time ~2 hour study

My goal is to get a 30 composite on the ACT

EC:
Music and lots of it- Piano for 7 years. 7-8 trophies. District winner and state participant. Attended a summer camp my sophomore year. ~$1,000 scholarship winnings. In a music organization that aids children into developing music in their lives. I also play violin. In the top orchestra since freshman year. Deciding to quit orchestra my senior year to take college chem. I think I already have too much music in my life and it takes up a lot of time.

Apprentice for a research project in environmental chem-~300 hours

Questions:
obviously... my chances
Should I totally disregard SAT and go ACT route?
Should I drop my orchestra class for College chem? (Our school doesnt offer AP chem)

Any suggestions is greatly appreciated.

Let's face it. Your test scores suck. But your perfect unweighted GPA will help. You really need to focus on improving that ACT, since there's no way you'd get in with your SAT scores. You need at least 2 SAT II scores--have you taken your SAT IIs already? Music ECs, by the way, are useless if you don't plan on pursuing music in college. Plus, there isn't exactly a shortage of Asian pianists in the U.S. For ECs, definitely mention apprenticeships and internships (also, he's either a doctor or a surgeon. Can't be both).

Now... would it be fine if I completely focus on ACT? Lets say i got a 30 composite. It's within the JHU range but will my SAT score be a liability?

I'd expect to get higher than a 30 for a good chance at admittance. 30 is the 25%, so not many people were accepted with that or lower.

If you submit SATIIs, colleges will see your SAT score as well, but they are supposed to overlook it if your ACT score is higher.

I think SAT score cannot get you into college but may be a factor that will prevent you from getting in. I wouldn't suggest devoting a lot of time for SAT but why not practice some over summer and try to do better? And if I were you, I would stay in orchestra.
