Hello CC,

I would like to bring up a subject that has been touched upon before but never really given THAT much attention to. I understand that a lot of you high schoolers are eager to know your chances for colleges since they can be very scary. However, there are a lot of people on here that chance for Ivy League schools or very selective schools and are either surprised or upset that the replies state that they are "reaches." So I would like to say the following:

If you plan on applying to an Ivy League, I would assume you would be smart enough to look around the forums or other people's "stats" and chance yourself based off of it. Let's be honest here. Highly qualified people get rejected each year. Am I saying you don't have a chance? No. I'm saying the people who are chancing you can't really accurately tell you your chances. Unless you found the cure to cancer, run a multi-billionaire company, etc, your chances are just the same as everyone else.

Fake resumes. Now I'm sure this doesn't happen often but people with fake resumes or "projected" stats should either tell the truth or wait for your stats. Even if you are absolutely 100% positive that your grades will be A's or you will bring your SAT score up to a 2000, there's no way to know for sure. Also, don't waste time with the chancers by posting fake EC's or whatnot.

People who are underqualified. Now, I know if you are a little "clueless" in the chancing process but if you have a 3.3 GPA and trying to attend top universities you should seriously reconsider. I've seen low grades or SAT's admitted into top schools but your chance is extremely low. If it's a reach for a 4.0 GPA with stellar EC's and SAT's, what do you think your chances are?

Format. Those people who type in a whole paragraph form and expect us to read through it should be more organized when typing their chance threads. It gives the chancers an easier time. Also, just give what is necessary. Don't go tell your whole life story. That's what your essays are for.

Chance vs Advice. There's a difference. For people who might say "well I just want advice to get into the higher tier colleges" then post it in a different section or label your thread "ADVICE NEEDED." There's a difference.

Ask yourself, WHY do you want to go to the top tier colleges. I know prestige and the quality of their programs matter but it's what you do in college rather than where you go. Although this may not be true in some situations, but other times it is. There's advantages and disadvantages and I know for some of you, your parents want you to go to the top colleges mainly because they don't know much about it. All they hear is "Harvard, MIT, Stanford, Yale, etc." I'm just saying, something to think about.

Please don't apply to just Ivy League guys, you know you need some safeties. Also, make sure you know your financial bracket because some schools are expensive.

I've been lurking around this website for a while. Based off the threads I know where I should be to be "competitive" for schools. If I can do that, you can too.
