Can NUers PLEASE stop the chance threads?

I am guilty (I posted one a few weeks ago on here and got a very good response, which was encouraging), but I've stopped because I now realize that nothing anybody on CC says or I say is going to make a difference in the decision I get from NU.

It is just really silly and it is getting really annoying to come to the NU thread and just see a bunch of "chance me and I'll love you!!" threads (not trying to single anyone out ;)).

Let's just accept the fact that admission to top schools is random and we have done everything we can do to support our "cause".

If anyone wants to swap essays or whatnot, I would be thrilled and happy to do that (it might help pass the time). However, is anyone with me about stopping these chance threads? Come on now......

Good luck to all even if you don't agree with me!

I agree with you, but chance threads are sort of the nature of this site. I haven't posted one myself, seeing as I didn't stumble upon CC until after choosing my schools, but I can understand juniors that are trying to figure out where they should apply.

What is kind of silly are seniors that want to get chanced at the places they already applied just so they can get an ego boost or something.

i think a lot of seniors post chance threads to calm their nerves, which is understandable...but really after seeing the same chance thread for the ten thousandth time, it gets really annoying.

It does get annoying, but there's alot of stress involved in the college process. It can, as someone has already stated, calm nerves. I hate to be blunt, but it's kind of inconsiderate to tell people they can't post something just because you don't want to see it. While CC and it's members really have no say in the admissions process and therefore our views don't count, CC serves as an outlet for alot of people.

That being said, I agree in the sense that I wish I saw less of them.

Yeah, I know what you are talking about. I suppose I kind of wrote this randomly after seeing the 20th "chance me" thread. Do what you want, but it would be helpful to have an actual discussion about the university as well.....

People obsess around this time of year when admissions decisions are fast approaching. Those who thought they were good candidates read CC chance me's and feel unqualified (i.e. me). I think the CC Chance Me threads are kind of not encouraging at all. I don't believe in posting chance me's but I have in the past so that it could "calm my nerves" as someone said. You want someone to tell you - oh you have a great shot because for a mean time - it will help you and reassure you and make you feel confident and less obsessed. Truth is that no one on CC knows the "answer" because they're not a part of the admissions committee and they only see numbers - which many school claim to be focusing less on. So watch lots of Friends! We'll all be great, we'll find out really soon. I kind if like not knowing as opposed to knowing a possible rejection. So I like procrastinating this feeling some times.

Hang in there. We are at the finish line.

Indeed, we are :).

Just hang in there everyone what is...is!!

lol oh yea i just thought of another thing i hate so much...it's when freshmen/sophomores expect some kind of chancing based on...pretty much nothing since they still have like 2 to 3 years left!
