Chance to be accepted to UTD and financial aid?

Hi I’m a senior high school student in Dallas area.

I’ve started applying to colleges and I really want to go to UT Dallas and get enough amount of financial aid, so I don’t have to leave Dallas.

I have 3.89 gpa out of 5 and in a top quarter.

I just took SAT last Saturday and I think I did pretty bad that I will get around 1200, I think I can do better with one in next month but I want to know what chance to be accepted right now. I don’t know if it makes any difference I go to highschool in Plano, TX which I think is one of the best and pretty competitive highschool in Dallas area.

For extracurricular, I only have 3 years of swimming in school swimming team.

I will be writing optional essay and apply asap I get the SAT score next month.

Can you guys tell me if I will be accepted or not and possibility of AES ( scholarship program)?

Thank you very much in advance

You should be accepted. No chance at AES. Look into starting at Collin College at first to save money. And if you do well at Collin, you might get a scholarship when you transfer to UTD.

Thanks for reply !!

Would there be a chance if I do better on the next SAT?

AES seems to get more competitive each year. @getoveritnow gave you solid advice. I believe there is a special transfer scholarship just for Collin students.

Depending on your where you are in plano, Richland College may be better.

I have taken dual credit courses at both Collin and Richland, and I have to say Richland wins by far.

My students at Richland seem to be set on transferring to a uni (they have a great relationship with UTD), while most people I know at Collin seem to be not driven and just there because their parents made them.

Just my 2 cents

Good point. I should have put the nearest/most convenient/desirable community college. As for Richland v. Collin, I’ve known quite a few who have gone from either one on to UTD and other colleges. In fact, I live about a mile from Collin most people I know at Collin do move on to UTD, UNT, or some other 4-year college.

To original poster, if you increase your SAT, you should get some money. I would say you have to get at least 1350 (new SAT). See http://aes.utdallas.edu/prospective-freshmen/awards
