Chance to get into MIT, Cornell, Carnegie, Georgia Tech

I understand MIT is a reach for anyone and you can never really chance someone for it but i figured i could use tips some tips, i plan on going for biological or biochemical engineering, id also like to apply to stanford, calTech, Hopkins, Lehigh

9th Grade:

I took all academic classes and honors Math in 9th grade, i dont really think this will hurt me since freshman year is usually sort of "looked over".

Thanks for the help in advance, if you need more information just let me know! please make the criticism constructive!

so many views and no replies :(

bump! bump! bump!

Neither MIT nor Stanford is especially stats driven and they are both much more interested in your achievements outside of the classroom. Just to put in context MIT will turn down more than half of USAMO qualifiers and Intel or Siemens semifinalists who apply, so it is nearly impossible to give you a estimate of your chances based on your data. If you are a Siemens finalist you will have a really good shot. Without that, single digit percent chances.

Caltech is more numbers driven but that means 2350+ to have a strong chance in addition to stellar grades. If you are even remotely considering being premed I would stay away from Caltech. The grade deflation will kill your chances.

Hopkins is no engineering powerhouse and a BME undegrad degree is pretty worthless unless you are going on to grad school or medical school. It should certainly be a target or low reach with your class rank assuming your SATs come in as expected.

Once you drop to schools like Lehigh (no offense intended) you should be able to use Naviance and Common Data Sets to give you a good idea.

hmmm alright thankyou for the reply, i actually visited MIT over the summer and was surprised to see a lot of the students were “normal” people with no research, no super math/science award or anything that made them unique in the eyes of most CC chancers, in fact the one hardly knew what research was until he attended MIT,but they were mostly just really driven and displayed that aptitude for achievemnt in their interviews and mini-essays, so im hoping if i nail those… i MAY get lucky. (:

and im pretty positive i could attend Lehigh anyways so im not too worried about being offended (:

I don’t think you’ll have a problem with GATech, as for the others, I am not sure to be quite honest. As you may see, I am new here haha. I also have looked into depth at GATech and I think that you have a good chance there. (P.S. I hear there is like 66% males and 33% females there, like a big sausage fest so I’m not sure if it’ll be the ideal place even though you don’t necessarily go to college for girls. For me, I wanna go to a good tech school but I don’t want it to be overwhelming with dudes if you know what I mean)

bump bump bump
