Chance to get into UCLA or berk?

Following Proposition 209, all UC admissions are race-blind. If you're Chinese neither UCLA nor UCB can hold it against you. They're still reaches, however.

I go to a public school in a decent area. On the paper my dad's income is very low because it only shows his incomes from US but I don't know if they count all the incomes from overseas.

Well I am very lazy. I play over 7 hours of computer per day during school days and does no homework. I managed to even stay at somewhere near 3.0 becuase of my tests. Although myGPA is improving this year, I still have very weak classes.

My SAT 1 are:

math 800
verbal 650-700
writing 800

I can prob take both SAT 2 math IC and IIC. American history and world history might also be fine. But i can't touch english or science stuff. Any AP is fine if my school even lets me take it.

Well like I wrote previously, I only came to LA for 2 years and my parents were in bad shape before (relation wise). But my conscience does not really want me to say the latter and besides the schools prob won't even care.

Any where is fine, I don't care. I only do this for my parents. I don't even believe a good college is necessary.

It sounds like you're not ready for college. It will just be a waste if you're doing it for your parents. What do you want to do for a living. Perhaps you should work for a couple of years. You'll probably appreciate college and really want to go after seeing what you can do with a high school diploma.

Hmm, assume I do want to go to college?

PS: My parents will prob kick me out if I said to them what you wrote ^_^

PS2: Its not rally I don't want to go to college. I wrote that perhaps out of shame. I mean, its hard for me to face the fact that I ae wasted so many years of time on stupid games and stuff. Like I said, if I can turn back the clock, I would Although its kind of late for me to realize many things now, I really hope there is a remedy somewhere.

Unless you're the best essay writer in the country, you've got pretty much no chances at UCLA/Cal. GPA is definitely the number one thing they use in admissions.

"Darn. Why is US one of the few countries that looks at your grades? Isn't ability enough? Sigh..."

Ability isn't worth much when you don't use it, as is your case. If you want a second chance to go to a top school, go to a community college for 2 years, get very good grades, prove to the UCs that you not only can do work but will do work and you'll have a good shot at transferring.

You'd almost be better off having lower test scores to match your low gpa, because then at least you could play up some angle. Having such high test scores and such a low gpa shows the schools you applied to that you are smart but extremely lazy. Not a good thing, to say the least. I agree with some of the other post that say you might not be college material right now. Maybe take some time off or go to a community college for a couple of years, because I can tell you that the getting by in highschool without doing any work is not the same as getting by at a VERY competitive college like Cal or UCLA. I sincerely doubt you would make it though a semester at either of these schools.

Actually 1 of the reasons I hate school because its too easy. And oh, they won't let me take Aps anyways because I just came to US. But oh well.

I might go to a CC but besides that is there any 4yea uni that i can go to? UCSD? UCI? etc etc

It would be a crap-shoot, but maybe uci or uc merced, but, like I said, It doesn't sound like you would be able to handle any school that let s you in unless you make some serious changes in the amount of work you're willing to put in to it.

i got in on test scores alone because i didnt have my a-levels. if ure interested.

i am from malaysia (int'l) too..since i saw u mentioned msia somewhere. so yeah. the test scores alone option exists and worked out for me! :)

would a nice GPA (92.8 with 2 APs currently) <-- Junior

and a quite low SAT of 1700-1900 stop me from getting admitted into nice colleges in NY or any other regions? ( living in Long Island )

what are a-levels?

A- level? Thats for british schools only though right? I was in Uplands before in Penang. Oh wait, was that O levels. ;/

Anyways what test did you take to get in what college? And hey, nice to see another person who has lived in Malaysia here ^_^

im on a scholarship program in malaysia which is basically prepping us for overseas education..we do lotsa english and math, which in my opinion is highly unnecessary since most of us are fluent anyway. but hey the scholarship body dictates.

basically i took my SATs I and II and applied for berkeley. i am supposed to only apply if i have finished malaysian high school that means AFTER my a-levels, otherwise my application would not be considered or so the website said. but i didnt do my a-levels. however, my SAT I and II scores fulfilled the "admit by test scores alone" thing and i got in anyway.

i'll be at berkeley for fall 2005 :) lucky me!
