Honestly, you’re an amazing candidate. Unfortunately with those schools it’s like a lottery. You could be perfect and not get in. I know of a guy who got into Harvard Yale and got a full ride to vandy and duke, but didn’t get into Stanford. Chances are though if you apply to all of those schools with your stats you’ll get into a few. It’s just hard to say which ones, depends on what they’re looking for!
I’m curious as to why you transferred from vandy? I’m actually looking to transfer there. It looked so perfect when I visited but one of my professors taught there and is telling me that none of the professors care about the undergrads and I’ll get no attention. Is that true or was he just being dramatic so I wouldn’t want to transfer.

@aimeenard: well, my major is math and I am very interested in applied math and statistics. But Vandy does not offer a statistics major and has only very general applied math classes. Moreover, for my secondary major Econ, Vandy does not have a good connection of these two majors. And since I want to start my own enterprise after graduation, Nashville cannot provide me with enough international environment and internship/job opportunities. Those are the reasons I think…

I remembered your post on CUUS…I’m a freshman in Davidson College and I also wanna transfer. Your stats are higher than mine, so your chances are quite big I guess. Anyway, good luck!

@jellybabe: Thank you!

Any other suggestions about how I can improve my chance?~Thanks everyone!

Have you been accepted by those listed schools before and did not go? If so, your chances are better with them.

I am an advocate for students to transfer in the Jr. year where you have established solid presence in the current school. One semester grade is not convincing enough for those top level schools to look at, they will lean more on your hs grades, not that they are not good, IMO.

psiovana - Dude, you didn’t even finish ONE semester at Vanderbilt and you know that you want to transfer? You’re “guessing” you’re gonna get a 3.9-4.0? How does that make sense?

If you do indeed get a 3.9+ your first semester, I would urge you to definitely try and transfer. If you don’t, wait for a junior transfer like me.

@Portmanreau5 I said in the tread that now I am straight A so 3.9 is very possible. Anyway, thank you!

@artloversplus Well…I didn’t get in them…So I want to try again and my academic needs require me to transfer this year.

psiovana,
While i have no idea whether you will be accepted by these schools this time around, I do want to say that it is a fine idea in your case for to try to transfer this year.
The key is to have a good ACADEMIC reason to change.

D1 did the same. She applied ED to a slam dunk LAC and got in. She thought she would love the place, but was very meh about it. But the real problem was that the school did not offer her major. How did she know her major so soon at a LAC??? She had done a project the last month of her senior year on a non- HS subject, and then took a course in that her first semester at the LAC, and knew immediately that she wanted to major in this subject are. She was taking the only course in that subject area at this college, really enjoyed it, and did very well.
Funny thing, all the other schools that had been on her RD list DID have this major.
So she applied to transfer to all of these in the Spring, and got in everywhere, due to a perfect GPA and a good academic reason to change.
She is now at a different college, ADORING her major, and loving the school!
Long story, but I think your story is similar.
Best of luck!!!
p.s. in her case the apps to transfer were all a bit different but basically none of them really looked at the HS stuff, though her transcripts from HS did have to go to some of them.
p.p.s. Tailor each essay to the school it is going to, and describe how being at that school would fulfill your academic goals (better than in your current school, of course)…

@performersmom Thank you for your help! Since I want a statistics & econ combined major and a better environment for enterprise startup, Vanderbilt, which is a great school, is not great in the way that suits me. I wrote these all in the draft of my “why transfer” essay. Could you help me to judge it? Thank you!

bumppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppp

Are you an international student needing financial aid? Your stats are impressive btw

@babyboom: I’m an international student enrolled in Vandy. I dont need FA…

I need some advice in UPenn’s chance…

If you get 3.9 GPA, then u have a very good chance. (in case u have a good reason to transfer also)

@babyboom Thank you!
