Chance UCD to UCLA transfer?

I don't really usually like these chance me threads, but I really do need to gauge my chances to decide whether or not to apply as a transfer next year!

So a little bit about me.
School: I go to UC Davis and I am currently finishing up my first year. I am an Economics major.
GPA: My GPA right now is a 3.80 (projected to be around high 3.7 to 3.85 depending on how I do on finals this quarter).
Extracurriculars: I've gotten decently involved in school this year (joined university orchestra for first two quarters, pledged for professional business fraternity, volunteered to teach elementary school kids violin). For next year, I am going to be a Resident Advisor and hold a leadership position in my professional business fraternity. I also currently have a business related internship lined up for the summer and am looking to getting another internship or part time job this summer.

My high school stats were as follows:

UW GPA: 3.60/ W GPA 4.05 (I got 1 C my senior year second semester and a plethora of B's during my sophomore and junior years). I took all APs/Honors but only did so-so(mostly 3's) on the AP tests.
SAT Score: 2100
Extracurriculars: TONS of violin activities(all-state orchestra, music camps, volunteering to teach music and some other non-music volunteering)

Back in senior year, I applied to UCLA but got waitlisted at did not get in. I also got waitlisted at schools like UChicago and UCSD.

I was just wondering, do you think I have a good chance at transferring to UCLA? Is there anything I could do to help my chances?

(I also heard that UCLA values CC transfers more than UC-UC transfers, so is it true that my 3.8 GPA would look worse than a 3.8 from CC?)

Your UCD GPA won’t look worse than a 3.8 coming from a CCC. If anything, it looks better. That said, Economics is an extremely difficult major to get into at UCLA. The average GPA of admitted students is a 3.9. However that’s just that…an average. There will be admits who have slightly higher and lower GPAs. More importantly, make sure you finish all the pre-requisite courses for the major. If you are missing even one for such a competitive major, you are guaranteed to get a rejection, even if you have a 4.0 or something. Your GPA is certainly solid. By law, the UC’s are required to give highest priority to CCC transfer applicants; they’re not valued more than you. It’s just the way the system was set up.

Everything that happened before you started at UCD is completely irrelevant. They will not care about your HS GPA, what your test scores were, which prestigious universities accepted you, ect. You can put down your extracurricular activities from HS though…if you don’t have any better ones to list or are still participating in them currently. If you are not planning to apply to any other UC’s except UCLA, you might want to specifically write about why you want to go to UCLA in your personal statement.
