Bumppppppp

Vanderbilt should be a match for you. Michigan and UCLA should be low match, maybe safety. UVA is at least a match, maybe low match.

I would say you have a good chance of getting in all of these places, as long as you have good essays. Also you have a lot of ECs but what really matters is showing commitment to them, and I can’t tell if you do just by reading the list. But if on the apps you proved that you are very involved and dedicated to your ECs I think you have a great chance of being accepted to all of these schools.

bump please!

Vandy = low match ED (50/50). ED hopefully will push him over. Grades and ECs appear fine although nothing stands out re the ECs (just solid overall). Curriculum avg w/o any AP English. PAVE program should be a plus, although my son applied RD last year after PAVE, had higher tests scores, as good grades, and stronger curriculum (Calc B/C jr year with 5 on AP, multi variable senior year, AP Physics C) and got rejected (only school that rejected him; attending UVA, wait listed at Duke, Hopkins, and Chicago). Hopefully the difference for your son will be ED versus RD. The real issue at Vandy will be with the ACT score of 31, which translates to about 2040 on the conversion chart. In my view, Vandy is one of the more test-focused schools in the country and last year’s median (25 to 75%) for ACT was 32 to 35 (and the bottom 25% mostly athletes and others with hooks). Your son will be an interesting case because in my view based on all factors he should be an admit, but I think there is a pretty large risk due to test scores.

As for other the places, UVA OOS = reach (10 to 33%). We are in-state and so in a different pool from OOS, which is about equal to Dartmouth/Penn in terms of competitiveness and test scores/curriculum do not match what they expect OOS in my view.

As for others, UM OOS 60/40 accept and 40/60 decline for UCB and UCLA. UCSD/UCSB etc = matches (66 to 90% admit).

Hope your son gets into Vandy. Good luck!

thank you for your chance. vandy’s ed 50th act percentile actually begins at 31+. hopefully PAVE helps. he has shown a lot of demonstrated interest (campus tour, PAVE, Dore for A Day, contact with admissions counselor). His extracurriculars make him stand out in my opinion (student worker paid job, 2 big political club presidencies and one statewide position). Also, the SAT to ACT conversion is quite skewed an irrelevant to Vandy since SAT does score choice. some charts show a 31 to be a 2080-2110. BUMMMMP

I think you have a good chance at Vandy, especially since you’re applying ED. The fact that you have maintained a job at Subway during school is impressive and will not be underestimated by the adcom, and definitely something you should highlight.
Chance me please?
