So I was admitted EA. Now I want to know if I have what it takes to get into the honors program.
4.0 GPA UW
4.313 GPA W
7 APs
and some honors (Idk the number since my school only has honors for some classes and no one has any control over whether or not they take the course).

SATs:
...sigh. This is what I'm worried about:
1210/1900 :(

Honors/Awards:
Nat Honor Soc
Nat English Honor Society
Beta Club
Alpha Scholar
Letter of Academics
AP Scholars with Distinction
District Honor Band
2nd Place at Local Foreign Language Fair

Extra Currs:
Marching Band
Debate
Model UN
Secretary of Junior Class
Around 100 hours of community service

Right now I feel as if it could go either way, really. I'm going to take the SAT again this January and seriously study to get my math and reading scores up! I didn't study the last two times I took it, so I hope I'll be able to make a difference or something with this upcoming test!

Congrats on EA! Try not to stress about Honors. Do your best on the January SAT and the application for Honors. Remember to make sure the essay accurately reflects who you really are and not what you think they want to hear.

Honors Program Students 2350
2010–2011 First-Year Class 525
Average First-Year High School GPA 4.06
Average First-Year SAT 1471*
Middle-Range SAT 1440 – 1490
ACT Middle 50% of Admitted Honors Students: 31 - 33

Yes, your current SAT scores are below the mid 50%, but hey someone has to be in the bottom 25%. And once in the Honors Program no one knows your SAT scores anyway, it’s all about how well you do in college.

If not accepted this spring, you can apply during the fall semester. Regular freshman only have 1 shot at applying for Honors. You must have a 3.75 GPA and have 15 hours of classes (14 of which must be graded, not pass/fail).

Honors is a wonderful program, but remember that you can still be involved in CURO and other programs even if you aren’t in Honors.

Thank you so much for the detailed answer…but I fear I won’t be able to take the SAT anymore because all of the seats in every testing center are occupied. :(

Sigh. Oh well, I guess.

Anyway, based off of my current stats, do you think I’ll be able to make it into honors? Is it a reach or am I like borderline acceptance?

I was hoping a more redeeming quality (like my GPA) would be able to compensate for my SAT score.

I think you can do it…I got accepted into the honors program “automatically” (so I was accepted early at UGA and about a week later I got the invitation to the program without actually ever applying to it):

My numeric average weighted (sorry I never calculated GPA…) was 101.3%
Class Rank: 5/500ish
My SAT was 1430/2200 (quelle horreur!!! below the middle range!!) 690 M 740 V 800 W
ACT: 33 (dont remember specific sections)
4 APs (but 5’s on all of them)

Extracurriculars:
Concert Band
Marching Band
Orchestra
French Club
Some volunteering (and it was very minimal)

So I wouldn’t worry too much about SAT scores b/c yours aren’t bad. Perhaps I just got lucky with all my college admissions but I really do believe that its possible to get in mostly riding on your grades. Best of luck, I’d say its a good chance for you
