thanks

I don’t really know how the homeschooling/blood cancer affects your chances… So I’ll just chance you based on your stats. Of course, it is a valid excuse for a lower GPA, so be sure to mention it in your personal statement.

Also, I’m going by your stated GPAs as if they were weighted. It would be different for your junior year if that’s your UW.

UCB – High Reach
UCLA – High Reach
UCSD – Reach
UCD – Low Reach/Match
UCI – Low Reach/Match
UCSB – Low Reach/Match
UCSC – Match
cal poly slo – Match
uop – Match
usc – Reach
santa clara univ – Match

Your GPA is a bit low for most of these schools… and for Berkeley, UCLA, USC your SAT is low as well.

But if that’s not your weighted, tell us your UC GPA.

id say ur in into all of them. i mean, ur able to get good grades with such a disease! ur involve in ECs involving ur illness and it shows that u have potential to fight the disease and to not let u give up! ur gpa isnt that top notch, but i bet the administrators will see through that!

thanks guys i just hope the recession wont get in the way of admissions

chance me and ill chance you back!

bump…anyone?

anyone… ill chance back

I’d say you are in at all the mid and low-tiered UCs. Your gpa is really low. You weren’t sick freshmen year and you had a 2.8? or were you sick then, and is that what affected your gpa? I would say no to usc as well. Your gpa and sats just aren’t good enough. Maybe if you explain your illness in your essays, you would have a better shot, so the adm. officers know what you had to go through. Best of luck.

There was a young lady who posted last season who had gone through 2 bouts of cancer and did not get into any schools her stats did not imply she would. Including a school where she was a legacy.

So while I know kids are trying to be nice, none of you have a clue that adcom overlook things based on illness.

To the OP, I would not count on any UC you don’t have the stats for. You might get lucky, but be prepared and apply to some sure things.

so my illness doesnt really play a part in admissions? !?!?!?

Not at UCs

Hi, I am unsure about your exact chances to any of these schools but a friend of mine got into a car accident during her junior year and her grades dropped a bit (two B’s), she got something in the 1800’s for her SAT’s and she got into UCLA. I know she had good (if not great) recommendations, and her extracurriculars probably helped because she played volleyball all four years and was in Key Club. She thinks her essay played a key role in her admission to UCLA (and Berkeley), because she wrote about recuperating and how her car accident made her see life in a different light.

I think it’s definitely possible for you to get into the UC’s, just try your best. USC might be a different story. My aunt went there, and she said she was probably one of the less qualified applicants, something I was surprised to hear. (Although, that was a while back.)

^I love these stories, UC’s don’t even accept recommendations.
