Chance? Upward trend

Hey guys. So here's my story. When I was a freshmen, I transferred in October from (what you may call) a "ghetto" school district to a much more competitive one. It took some time getting used to the heavy workload and competitiveness found in the new district; I ended up with a 2.8 first semester, and 3.3 second semester :(. So that is overall a 3.05 to colleges if I'm not mistaken. Though I don't think UMich weighs too much on freshmen year, I just thought I'd like to share this "excuse". I worked as hard as I could from there, which ended up as an upward trend in my GPA.

Your GPA, even with the upward trend, is extremely low. It doesn’t help that your over represented. I will call this an extremely high reach.

Would the first generation hook help? What about the awards? Standardized test scores? It’s kind of hard to believe that GPA is all they look at regardless of their backgrounds… I applied EA too.

You’ll find out in December! But seriously, you are in-state you’d get a better idea by talking to your Guidance Counselor. Admissions will undoubtedly know your school and be able to put your application in context. Good luck!

You’re first generation for what? First generation for college? First generation in USA? (by Indian, I’m assuming you’re South Asian Indian). If it is the latter, not much of a hook; in fact, as post #2 says, Asian Indians are over-represented.
