Chance US student for PPE at Oxford/LSE/UCL/KCL

Hello! I’m a student from the US and I’m applying to PPE at the schools listed above. I have 5’s on AP Micro, Macro, US History, Calc AB, Spanish Lang, and English Lang / 750+ on chem, world history, math II and physics subject tests / a 1550 SAT. Also, I’ve received A’s on 3 political science / econ related classes that I took at a local university over the summer AND have predicted 5’s for 5 more AP’s, including Calc BC and AP US Gov. Based on purely academics/grades (not including my personal reading, future performance on the TSA, or personal statement- all of which I have prepped for/worked on A LOT; not getting into detail, but I’m well prepared in all those 3 categories), what are my chances for getting into these schools?

KCL & UCL pretty certain.
LSE solid odds, but bet on an offer conditional on your marks on BC & US Gov & 1 more of your senior year APs.
Oxford, no way to tell. You (very obviously) meet the stats, but the TSA score is a key factor in shortlisting for interview invites. IF you get to interview you (statistically) have about a 1 in 3 chance but there is absolutely no way to predict how that will go and it is make or break.

I’d be slightly less optimistic about UCL, still a strong chance but not certain, and I think they might want Calc BC. Agree KCL should be unconditional and quick. Hard to call LSE (do you realize it’s a 4 year course unlike the others?) and Oxford chances will depend on the TSA and interview (make sure you go to that in person, note you only get 2 weeks notice so booking a plane ticket with miles now and then canceling if you don’t go is a good solution if you have that option).

@Twoin18 @collegemom3717 thank you so much for the responses / advice!

I’d replace UCL with UEdinburgh and St Andrews. Both in Scotland, which is very interesting from the PPE perspective right now.

Sorry to intrude, but what is the TSA?

TSA = Thinking Skills Assessment. A test that Oxford and Cambridge use as part of the admissions process for certain courses. You can see a sample paper here: https://www.admissionstesting.org/images/296238-tsa-oxford-specimen-test.pdf

It is offered on 1 date each year, usually in early November (30 October this year).

Sorry- just noticed that it’s you, @123Mom123 - it’s required for PPE, similar to the HAT for History / History+ courses.

@collegemom3717 - Thanks! I was curious and as you know I’m reading as much as I can on UK info.

@collegemom3717 @Twoin18 I have a friend who plans to apply to schools in the UK (specif PPE at schools like Oxford/UCL/etc) next year as well, and he was wondering if a 1300 SAT from sophomore year would affect his application if his highest SAT (junior fall) ended up being a 1560. His stats are relatively similar to mine in terms of AP’s and SATII’s, with slightly less of the latter.

Highest is given the bulk of the attention.
