chance with perfect SAT score

hey everyone,

do u think that an ivy league school like yale would reject a student with a perfect SAT score, OK grades, 3.9 GPA and a considerable amount of ECs?

yes .

Yes. If your essays or recommendation letters are terrible.

This year's Yale admit/reject threads with stats.....

For the year before, search for massacre

Yale is a reach for everyone. No matter you grades, SAT scores, or ECs it is a "reach".

bandit_TX can you please post the whole links, with the ... it doesnt work
thanks

it still doesn't work

click on that link, then click on what bandit posted there.. it works for me.

Yes they will reject you...but, considering Harvard rejected 50% of its perfect scorers, your chances increase significantly.

Yale rejects 60% of perfect scorers. Rightfully so—COLLEGES KNOW TEST SCORES DON'T MATTER.

Which means they accept 40%. That's 4 times the normal admit rate.

Colleges do know test scores matter but as part of the whole package. If they didn't matter at all then their average test scores wouldn't be so high.

Could someone give me an example of a few hooks...I don't really understand them

A hook is something that sets you apart from the rest like my friend whose mother was murdered and who was shot at. If ash writes an essay about it that is a major hook.

People make it sound like a 1600 does nothing for you at times. Your chances are so much higher with a 1600 but only if you aren't significantly weak in other areas. If you could evaluate yourself without the 1600, would you still consider yourself "Yale material"? Then again, sometimes it's just random and great applicants get rejected everywhere even if they totally don't deserve to be. What kind of grades and ECs do you have?

My grades are not too special but my ECs are pretty good. It's really nothing too great. And I'm Asian.

ECs:
International cultural club, Youth AMerican Canser society, CORE, Bridges, renassaince, roots and shoots, Japanese club, the roar, WLHS, maybe DECA and NHS this fall. Volunteering at Senior center, hospital and firehouse, etc. All very small tiny things. OOh, I'm really really not a genius but i work hard.

Did you have leadership roles in any of those because that is much more imporatant than how many there are.

so far, i've been chair of renaissance/ principal's advisoty, pres. roots and shoots, pres. ICC, maybe some position in YACS, etc. Really not much but I'm a member of many other clubs. Does that totally stink?

PeaterGriffin, where is that statistic from?
