Chance (yet another) an OOS? Please?

UNC has been my favorite school since I can remember. It would be a dream to get in, but I know it's incredibly hard out of state. If you guys could help me out, that would be great.

GPA
W 4.0
UW 3.6

ACT 30

Senior sched:
AP English
AP Stat
Journalism
Elec. Media
Visual art
Gov/econ honors

Also took four APs this year (English, Physics, Psych, and Calc)

EC:
Won numerous awards with electronic media class including regional Emmy in broadcast news and Tennessee high school press association first place for broadcast news AND for feature story.

Also, eagle scout.

Even if I do get in, I don't think I would get much fin aid which would leave me looking at around 30,000 a year at least. Do you guys think it's worth it to go to a school like UNC for a boatload of money or to go to a school that I could go to for 20-25k less/year?

I'm interested in broadcasting/telecommunications and I know Carolina's program is pretty strong.

Thanks!

While you’re at it, if anyone could give me some feeback on my chances for OOS at UNC i’d appreciate it was well. I’m a high school junior, I visited about a month ago and was unbelievably impressed with the school.

GPA: 3.8 unweighted, 4.15 weighted from a private, competitive Jesuit school in Cleveland OH
5 AP’s by the time I graduate: AP US History (5 on exam), AP Euro, AP Government, AP Calc AB, AP Lit
11 Honors
32 ACT, 1410 SAT (taking both again, hopefully I’ll get those up)
780 US History SAT II

Strong EC’s: Editor-in-chief of School newspaper, Tons of service (leader of extensive neighborhood cleanup project, leader of ministry to homeless, pallbearer ministry, tutoring inner city students, etc), green team recycling club, JV golf, cyo basketball, etc.

Any words of advice or honest opinions would be appreciated, thanks!

bswann10, please make your own chances thread.

Collegemarc, do you have some sort of class rank as well as the gpa?

I have to check with my counselor on that one. I know I’m not top 10, but i’m pretty sure i’m in the top 10-15%

Here is my take on OOS situation. I was accepted as an OOS sophomore transfer to UNC-CH with a 1240/1840 SAT, 3.2 HS GPA, 3.41 College GPA. Obviously good recommendations, decent essay, and ECs from HS and College helped

Granted, I will be matriculating at either Vanderbilt or Georgetown for my sophomore year, but not because I believe the academics to be superior at those schools to UNC. UNC is frankly too big for me, but the campus and town are really nice.

The Gist of my comments, if you have your mind set on UNC from OOS and happen to get rejected as a freshman applicant, then you transfer in as a sophomore with a much higher chance of admittance . Granted you will not be at the school your freshman year, but 3 years is plenty of time to enjoy your undergraduate experience

Thanks for the input. I’m kind of set on a state school so I can get the “college experience”. However, I want to be at one place for four years and not transferring in and out, so if I get rejected tpm Carolina, then I’ll probably end up not re applying as a transfer. Thanks for the advice!
