Chance?

I applied EDI to the College of Arts and Sciences.
Stats:
4.33 GPA weighted, 3.85 unweighted
SAT: 2120 (CR: 620 M: 770 W: 730)
A total of 7 AP's and 9 Honors classes by the time I graduate
SAT II Latin: 690
SAT II Bio (M): 690
Also took classes in the core 5 academic areas all 4 years...not sure if that will help?

Extracurriculars:
-Cross Country and Track all 4 years
-National Honor Society (Vice President)
-Latin Honor Society
-Latin Club
-Violin
-Volunteering

I love Vandy but I'm just not sure what my chances are...My CR reading score is my main concern and I know Arts and Sciences is their most selective school
any help would be greatly appreciated!

i think you’ll get in!
the only weak point i see is the sat II’s, but those are both rough tests.
hopefully i’ll see you there!

You seem pretty solid from what I can tell. You don’t have to send your SAT IIs if you don’t want to, and I don’t think your CR score will matter much since you still had a 2120. You really seem like a very good fit for Vandy. Good luck and let me know your results! If you’re like me then you wish you could sleep till the 17th. Here are my stats. Let me know what you think.

EDI
3.8 GPAw (4.25 is highest at my school)
Every Honors/AP course my school offers
top 15 %
32 ACT
ECs: Band(president), cross country, track, math and science team
2 part time jobs
600+ community hours

The main thing that concerns me about my application is my GPA/class rank. My class is only about 130 people (though it is a very good school). I didn’t try in high school until the end of my junior year, and I’m regretting it now. Anyway, let me know what you think and good luck!

thank you both for your input, you guys just made my day!

TenaciousE, sleeping will be very tough indeed haha. And I also think you have a good chance. Your extracurriculars look especially good! i see you are trackie :)

Yup! Running FTW!!! I wish I could do it in college, but I don’t want to go to a school with DIII athletics -_-

Speaking of sleeping, I had a horrible dream last night. It was Dec. 17th and when I opened the envelope, all I found was a red piece of paper that read, “ACCESS DENIED.”

ah true, no chance for a scholarship for a DIII school.

I actually had a dream last week that I got rejected from Georgetown even though I didn’t apply. They just felt like telling me that they didn’t want me haha. But I think these are just symptoms of stress…gotta think positive thoughts!

i was reading this and was like “thank god, im not the only one out there that is stressing”

anyways, bridget i think that you have a strong chance for Vandy because you are well rounded. i don’t think that your CR will be a huge concern as long as you don’t plan on being a literature major. :stuck_out_tongue: also i will help that you are applying ED.

Here are my stats. let me know what you think for RD College of Arts and Science:

3.77 uw GPA
SAT: 2090 (CR:690 M:780 WR:620)
Taking SAT II in Dec; will send if 700+
1 AP (only one that school offers)
21 college credit when graduate (my school specializes in medical science and only takes top student from county; all courses are taught at honors level)

EC:
tennis and track and field all 4 yrs.
Student Council (started an annual pancake breakfast fundraiser)
Class Treasurer (all 4 years)
Mock Trial (won counties 2 yr. in a row)
NHS
Latin Honor Society
4-H Teen Council (pres); health and service (vp)
Vol at hosp (300+ hr)
Organized Habitat for Humanity trip
2 part time job
Mentorship (shadowed neurosurgeon and viewed surgery)

Obviously im concerned with my low SAT WR and low GPA!!! what do you think

an addendum to the 21 college credits. its for courses like Anatomy and Physiology I and II, Nutrition, Medical terminology, molecular bio, dynamics of health, etc.

Vandy only looks at CR+M so, it’s actually about a 1390, but that’s still around the middle 50%

haha simone, i do not plan on being a literature major :)

you have a strong SAT score and the fact that you took the most rigorous classes that your school offered will definitely be a plus. heck, you have good extracurriculars with leadership positions as well. just make sure you have a kickass essay and you will have a great shot :)

I think you have a good shot too, simone. Like bridget said, a good essay could really help, but I think you have a pretty reasonable shot either way. Good luck!

bridget, what is your prospective major? we’re kind of similar, only reversed, in that i have a low math score (600) and good english scores (760 cr and 770 w) im applying ED to arts and sciences also as a classics major! glad to see someone else loves latin! :stuck_out_tongue: i wish you luck and i definitely think you have a good chance!

haha onebluegoldfish, i actually noticed the exact same thing about our scores! i hope to major in biology, and have actually thought about minoring in latin too. after coming out of AP vergil alive, latin has become part of my life haha. but i wish the best of luck to you as well! only 17 days of agony left!

good luck! if we both get in, we should add each other on facebook so we already know 1person in the fall! :]

that sounds like a great idea :)
