Hi...I'm sure everyone is annoyed with all of these..

Also, am I candidate for scholarships? I'm applying for the November 1st Priority deadline...I know OOS tuition is pretty expensive.

You have respectable scores and grades, and I don’t have any idea how many applicants they get from Ohio, but I’m assuming it’s not alot… you certainly have a chance, but I wouldn’t call it a safety for you.

Unfortunately in terms of tuition, your ACT/GPA numbers aren’t in the realm of receiving the free-ride Banneker/Key scholarship. You may possibly get some money, but I assure you it will only put a dent in the OOS tuition. Unless you are prepared to cover most of the costs of OOS tuition, I wouldn’t get my hopes up for UMD. Every year there are OOS students who are accepted but after getting merit $ and financial aid $ (if it applies), they find there is still a big gap in the cost.

Sorry to be “Debby Downer” but you need to be realistic about the costs. UMD financial aid for OOS students leaves a lot to be desired (and a lot of $$$ that has to be paid).

I am afraid I think Astrophysicsmom has this just about right. The numbers are tough for you. Seventy-three percent of College Park freshmen had GPA > 3.75. If you’re not a Marylander (and you can’t dunk a basketball with two hands), your GPA isn’t a particular strength in your application. Maryland doesn’t publish ACT information about its freshmen, but if you look at [Compare ACT and SAT Scores | ACT](http://www.act.org/solutions/college-career-readiness/compare-act-sat/#.UGRShFFnJMk), your ACT scores are comparable to an SAT CR+M of about 1220–just a little bit above Maryland’s bottom quartile.

So, yes, you’re in range. But (at least, based on what you’ve shared) you’re not really in the top of the range, and Maryland does admit less than half of its applicants. I think that it will be harder to get into College Park from Ohio with your numbers than it would be from Maryland. And I think that if you do get in, Maryland is likely to cost you a lot more than it would cost a Marylander, and a lot more than it would cost you to go to Ohio State.

Sorry.
