She is also first gen. She visited the campus last summer.

She is wondering if she has a chance for midd at all because of her C in French (she does not hope to continue it further). Her rank is not very severely affected by it (top 8-9%) but she is paranoid and wanted me to copy and paste her information. Thank you!!

If she isn’t sure, she shouldn’t apply ED to either.

@arcadia she has visited both but is leaning towards midd (has family in Burlington).

“She is wondering if she has a chance for Midd at all because of her C in French”

Middlebury is apparently pretty flexible in applicant review and will take students that they like under holistic* considerations even when their entire GPA is well below your friend’s. The one C in French should not be a major factor. Bowdoin seems to have a similar review process.

*Based on USNWR profiles in which students were accepted at Middlebury and Bowdoin with a 3.2 GPA/26 ACT and a 3.3 GPA/1650 SAT, respectively (ACT/SAT possibly not submitted).

I agree, the C should not hurt her (especially if she is already fluent in multiple languages) if admissions feels like she is a good fit. She seems like a strong candidate, and she should only apply ED if she has a clear preference for Middlebury!
