Chance?

Hi guys, I was wondering what my chances would be for getting into GW and its honors program. I am interested in studying political science and I’m an upper middle-class white male from Westchester, NY. Here are my stats:

Unweighted GPA: 89.8571
Weighted GPA: 96.7190
Class Rank: 64 out of 780

SAT: 2120 (640 for reading, 770 for math, 710 for writing, 10/12 on the essay)
SAT II:
World History: 760
U.S. History: 790
Math 2: 790

AP’s taken: World History, U.S. History, Physics 1, Environmental Science, Statistics, Human Geography (5’s on all of them)

Classes I am taking this year: Gov & Pol, Macro, Calc BC, Physics C, and two semester-long english electives.

EC’s:
President of the Young Democrats Club, Co-Captain of the Academic Team, Member of my city’s Youth Council, Member of the Economics Team, Member of Key Club, Member of the Mock Trial Team, Member of an Evening Film Club, Black belt in karate, Member of National Honor Society, worked for my city’s chamber of commerce, and interned with my State Senator’s fall campaign. (I’ve done these EC’s throughout hs with the exception of the last three).

Essays: Decent. Basically, i wrote about how and why politics is important to me.

Recommendations: Very strong. Two teachers and one from the campaign director from the state senate campaign.

I was waitlisted from AU if that gives any perspective.

Your resume seems pretty impressive. Surprised you got waitlisted at AU. Maybe they thought your stats were too impressive and you were unlikely to attend.

@NHuffer sorry to @ you but you seem to be the best at judging these things. Would you be able to judge my chances?

I’m also surprised you were waitlisted at AU. As far as GW, I’d think you have a good chance at acceptance.

Have you toured GW? Spoken with any of the Admissions folks (your local Rep?) In your essay, while talking about politics did you mention GW specifically and how the two are related? I ask because your stats are in line with the average student that will be accepted, but that last little bit in an application is how well you convinced the panel that GW is where you really want to end-up. It’s possible that’s why you were waitlisted at AU- maybe they thought you weren’t that serious about them?

Good luck!
