I plan on going to UCLA. taking engineering. i hope engineering isn't as hard to get into as Bio or the other popular majors.

4.1 UC GPA
2200 on the SAT (going to take it again)

Awards:
1. violin award
2. dont know what this award is called. you have to have a 4.0 GPA or above to get this. Got it all three years.
3. student of the month
4. althletic scholar award.

EC's:
1. symphony. (it's a professional one outside of school)
2. concertmaster
3. competition in violin
4. basketball (one year)
5. orchestra (all three years so fat)
6. president of a performing arts club
7. red cross
8. 100+ hours of community service

I also went to community colleges during the summer to take college courses.
Took two college courses and got A's on them.

haha your gpa and sats are good, but engineering is one of their most popular things...if u are willing too stay 5 years at LA, go in undeclared and ur almost guaranteed to make it. with engineering ppl with ur stats go in and apply too, so then u depend on luck, which isn't something u prlly wnat.

Yes, engineering is the toughest school at UCLA to get into (as an undergrad).

With your stats you should be fine, though. That 2200 SAT is way above average, and the 4.1 UC GPA is right at the average. Your ECs are acceptable, and the two college courses will help you.

If you want to be sure of getting into UCLA, though, flong is correct--apply undeclared. But you need to realize that the competition at the school to get into engineering can be almost as tough as getting in from outside the school. I think something like 40% get in from undeclared to engineering.

Good luck

P.S. I'm a UCLA alumnus myself (MBA from the business school). It's a great school and a fun place both in and out of class.

Yeah, being a part of an outside professional symphony is a strong EC so if you were questioning whether or not to include it in your app. or wondering its weight, well its worth something.

can anyone tell me how i can improve my chances of getting into the engineering program? i know i have to stand out in my essay, but i need like an extracurricular i can do to get a better chance of getting in. thanks

doode, we already told u just go in undeclared and then choose a major ur 2nd year there. theres nothing you can really do for UC's, its only scores + gpa and then if ur borderline essay+exc which now is too late with apps due in 4 days.
