Chance?

I have a 4.0 UW, 4.4 W GPA at one of the best schools in Northern California.

1430/1600 SAT w/ 740 CR, 690 Math
SAT II: Math-690, Physics 670

EC includes 4 yr JV/Varsity Basketball, 2 yr JV Football, 1 yr JV baseball, 1 yr Varsity Track, ~100 hr. community service.

The schools that I am currently interested in include:

UC Berkeley
UCSD
Rice
UChicago
Duke
UCLA
Stanford

I am also taking a summer class at Stanford, Intro to Physiology, and it looks as though I am going to get an A, if that helps my chances at all.

I'm interested in either Civil Engineering or Biomedical Engineering and maybe Economics/Math. I'm wondering which schools I listed would be a reach/match/safety. I know that I probably need more choices, so can you also suggest some similar schools that would be a good fit? Location, price, and anything besides the academic quality of a school aren't really factors as far as I'm concerned.

Thanks in advanced.

How good are you at basketball?

UC Berkeley: Likely
UCSD: In
Rice: Maybe
UChicago: Maybe
Duke: Unlikely
UCLA: In
Stanford: REJECT

I don't know how the UC system really works, so I can't help you there.
If you boosted that math score on SAT I and II then you'd have a much better shot at these schools. Your CR is fabulous and your GPA is great.

I'm guessing you are taking the hardest courses at your school. I'm also guessing that your rank is fairly high (top 10%).
If either of those is not true, then these chances would drop a little.
I'm also hoping that you have other ECs than sports. I'm sure it takes up a lot of your time to do sports, but it seems like you are a little one-sided. That may work out for sportsy schools.

Rice - High match --> Low Reach
UChicago - Reach
Duke - Reach
Stanford - High Reach

and my suggestions

BME:
JHU - Reach
Case Western - Match
Northwestern - Low Reach --> Reach

Civil:
University of Illinois - Match
Georgia Tech - Match
Purdue - Likely Match

Economics/Math:
University of Rochester - Match
University of Michigan Ann Arbor - High Match --> Low Reach

stanford is not gonna happen. all the others are possible, some more unlikely than others though.

I agree about Stanford.

But I'd add that UC Berkeley and UCLA are huge reaches oos because of the caps on the number of out of state students and the way the calculate AI.

He's in-state.
