I've also been an active member of our school's competing choir for all four years, and last year, was the choir's President. This year I'm a co-senior representative. Our choir has traveled to Atlanta, GA (9th), San Francisco (10th), Washington, DC (11th), and is traveling to NYC in the spring for national competition. At all of the mentioned competitions, we have won awards, our most outstanding achievement was winning first place in every division last year. We've also earned superior ratings for the past two years, and the choir is only as old as the school is (5 years).
During 9th grade I competed at District-level Solo and Ensemble as a vocalist and received a superior rating. I hope to compete again next month.
I'm a founding member of our school's new Young Democrats Club, which formed this year. I hold office in the club as Publicity Director.

My volunteering isn't so strong. I have about 200 hours total from volunteering at a local non-profit animal shelter, a musical theater summer camp for kids called "Broadway Babies," and various other small volunteer jobs.

Other musical experience I have comes from a summer camp I have attended for three years, called Power Chord Academy. (Don't know if this is a plus, or a neutral).

I'm wondering how good my chances are for USC Thornton, NYU Tisch's School of Recorded Music, and University of Florida. I feel like most of my edge, for UF, would come from my family's attendance there. My dad's dad, my dad, my mom, and my brother all attended UF, and I'm hoping that WILL give me a little edge.

Feedback?

You would have to pick almost impossible schools, wouldn’t you?

USC Thornton–Reach (average GPA for admission is about 3.89 UW)
NYU Tisch–Slight Reach (average GPA is about 3.83 UW)
Getting into these two programs is almost as tough as getting into Princeton’s bio-medical programs

Univ of Florida–Safe Match to Match (in my opinion, you should get in at this school easily because of all the honors courses you’ve taken and your family’s connection with the school)

I’d apply to one more school as a safety–just to be sure. Pick one with a good music/performance school–maybe Oberlin or Indiana University at Bloomington. (Note: These aren’t “safeties” for most people–just for you with your solid GPA and great music background).

Thanks for biting back :)

I’ve actually applied to at least a dozen schools, both in and out of state, University of Central Florida, Potsdam at SUNY, and San Francisco State University among them. I’ve been accepted to three in-state (FL) colleges so far, and two in California (SFSU, and USCLA). What I’m hoping to do at this point is to attend SFSU or UF to get an AA in music business/industry, then transfer to either Thornton or Tisch. Is that also insanely difficult?

calcruzer… tisch does not have an average GPA of 3.8. where are you getting that from? if anything it is probably still right around NYUs average GPA of 3.6.

admissions is 50% audition based @ tisch.
