Chance?

I have already been accepted to U of I for comp eng, but my friend applied for pre-med after the January 2nd deadline, he had to write an appeal. Will this hurt his chances of getting in? He got a 28 on the ACT and I am not sure about his other stats.

I think it is going to be tough. ACT 28 is not that great for pre-med.

Pre med is not a major but an advisory program. Marking or not marking the pre-med space on the app has no impact one way or the other on admission – if you mark it and are admitted otherwise, you get sent info on the advisory program and then assigned an advisor if you enroll. So I assume he actually applied for another major (a science?). The rule is that those who apply after the deadline will be considered for admission only after all other decisions are made for those who applied on time, and then only if there are still openings for the major requested. Net result is that late applicants face a liklihood of rejection simply because there are no more openings.

However, it sounds like he is appealing to allow his app to be considered as timely. Do not know what his excuse was and whether that appeal has been granted but if it has then he would be treated as any other applicant who applied on time. As to his chances it is impossible to to even guess with the minimum info you provided.
