just based on numbers what are my chances of getting into bowdoin?

2200 SAT (730 math, 730 reading, 740 writing)

3.77 unweighted gpa
4.1 weighted

if it makes a difference my junior year first semester gpa was a 4.0 unweighted and a 4.7 weighted and i hope to achieve the same for next semester and senior year.

i know this isnt much info but i would just like a basic idea

You’re in range, but it’s tough to tell you more than that.

also what does bowdoin look for the most in an applicant (gpa, scores-although i know they are optional, course rigor, ECs, essay, etc)?

and what difference does applying early make, is your chance of acceptance substantially greater?

it’s really hard to chance based solely on numbers–especially since Bowdoin, probably more than the average school, takes many factors into consideration. community service and strong essays & teacher recs can really help, as well as extra-curriculars. so try to get involved in your school and community.
the early decision program admits a lot of students (it’s 35-45 percent of the 2014 class, I believe). this year, the ED acceptance rate was 36% while regular was ~19%. however, i’m not sure that each individual really has a significantly better shot ED than RD because you’d give them the same application either way.
also, try to visit the school before applying, especially if you’re considering ED.

Bowdoin locks in a lot of athletes in the ED process. Those numbers can be deceiving. But just knowing numbers alone tells us nothing about your chances other than you are in the ball park. Its going to comedown to everything you do outside of school, your essays, and honestly where youre from will play into it a lot too. Bowdoin is trying to expand and draw people from the west coast and south in.

I think bowdoin is definitely aware of strength of one’s interest, essays, and ecs. People ranked 2, 3, 4 in my class all applied to Bowdoin and all got waitlisted

I agree with bluecoast. My impression from the admissions committee was that they are truly looking for the person behind the application, and not just good grades and high test scores.

Having said that, your SAT scores and GPA certainly won’t hurt!

the valedictorian from my school was waitlisted three years ago. a girl with a 2300, high in the class was waitlisted. bowdoin puts a lot of emphasis on diversity and personality - a lot of applicants are applying with the same stats as you.

and i agree with the previous statements - e.d. is by no means an easier route to acceptance. many athletes do e.d. to secure their spots (every school likes to build their teams early) so the numbers are skewed.

all that said, you’re definitely in bowdoin’s range, but show them you have something more to offer than just smarts.
