If you apply to GT-Savannah, you’ll get in.

You seem so sure!
It’s easier to get into Savannah?

Do you think I would get into Atlanta?

You’ll be rejected from Atlanta. Savannah has a much lower threshold for admission.

Any idea why that is? Isn’t a degree from Savannah a degree from GA tech?

GT Savannah’s degree is part of the RETP, which is the same degree offered by Georgia Southern, Valdosta State, etc. The basic idea is that you’re not admitted as a Georgia Tech student (you attend college as a Georgia Southern, Valdosta State, GT-Savannah student, etc). If you show the ability to succeed (via your GPA), then you’re transferred to GT and earn a GT degree. If you enter the GT-Savannah program and do not quality to transfer to GT (your grades are too low), then you earn a degree from Armstrong Atlantic State University, which is not the same as a degree from GT.

Because the program has that extra qualification step (a check of your GPA after 2 years), GT Savannah has a lower entry requirement.

Once transferred to GA Tech after the two years, do students stay in Savannah, or go to Atlanta?

It depends. There are four degrees that can be entirely earned in Savannah: Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, and Computer engineering. All other degrees require you to go to Atlanta.

If you enter into GT Savannah as a freshman in the GT-AASU Alliance Program, you’ll take core classes and live at Armstrong Atlantic State University for two years. After your core classes are complete, you’ll “transfer” (it’s not really a transfer since it’s automatic) to GT-Savannah to finish one of the four courses listed above. If your major is not listed above, you would need to transfer to the Atlanta campus. Either way you earn a GT BS.

If you enter the RETP program, you take 2 years of classes then transfer to Atlanta if your GPA is high enough.

Most students want to graduate from Atlanta (not Savannah) because the Atlanta campus is where recruiters go to hire and where you’ll find all of the student organizations. Savannah has some organizations, but they are very limited.
