Essay: Pretty unique and interesting. Not the usual template people follow for writing essays. I wrote with a touch of irony and humor about myself, but related it back to a goal I have in life.
Recs: Glowing

Thanks so much Good Luck to everyone!

I’ll be pessimistic and say probs not. any hooks?

Rhyme or Reason. Do not look for it in the admissions process. If you applied RD, there is a good chance you will get it, a good chance not. There are so many things that go into the process, including your major, your state, your school, essays.

Take a deep breath. I have helped a lot of kids through this, and more and more I am convinced that kids end up where they belong. You will be fine. And, I know you are already smart enough to know that “Chance me” threads are pretty worthless. Only the adcom knows for sure.

@imontoya haha i guess sometimes it’s just nice to hear someone else’s honest opinion about your chances rather than a friend’s very skewed opinion.

Jen: Try this on for size.

You are obviously a highly motivated and intelligent child. Any school will be lucky to have you as an addition to the campus. Your value as a person, as a student and as someones child has nothing to do with what a bunch of strangers see on an application. You are wonderful, and you have given your parents so much to be proud of, they are lucky to have you as a kid. YOu are going to get some acceptances, some rejections, but neither change the fact that you are a great person.

So your chances at Hopkins are 50/50. Your chances at being succesful in life, significantly higher.
:)

Hahaha that’s the nicest thing that’s ever been posted on CC.
Thank you for those words of wisdom:)

Haha I don’t know if mine is as glowing but I think you have a very good chance. Your SAT score is solid your GPA is pretty good for JHU and your ECs show dedication and passion. Are you male or female? URM? Legacy? Any hooks?
If you don’t, don’t sweat because I definitely don’t :).
Chance me back?

oh hey! I was Treasurer of my Key Club for 2 years =)
I’ve never heard of Honors Yearbook, so idk how JHU will view that, but I took food prep I&II sophomore year and I was fine. Your GPA is pretty good and your SAT score are great, so no problems there. I hope you wrote something in your essay about community service since it looks like it’s a big part of your life. It might have been better if you stuck with a sport for all 4 years since colleges do like seeing that, and depending on your major they do like seeing 4 years of a language.

However, all in all, I believe you have a pretty good shot. That DOES NOT mean you won’t et rejected or wait-listed (as I know people from my school with great GPA’s and SAT’s who got wait-listed and ultimately rejected), but it does mean that you will be a very strong candidate for the school. Take everything I say with a grain of salt since I’m not actually in admissions and I could be completely wrong, but obviously I think I’m right due to my own experiences in applying to JHU. Hopkins is a really good school which means that really good students from all over the world are applying here every year. As a result, you can never be sure- maybe they’ll look at your application and decide you wouldn’t be the best choice for the school or maybe they’ll pick up your application and immediately decide you’re perfect for the school. I personally believe that everyone gets into the school they were meant for, so if you get into Hopkins, GREAT! If not, sure be a little upset, but remember that you weren’t accepted because the admission people didn’t think you were the right fit for Hopkins and that mean there is another school out there that’s perfect for you.

Hockeydude664 Thanks a million:D I’m female. No legacy. But I am a first generation college student in the US. Hahaha my parents immigrated to the US a few years before I was born, Idk if that counts for much:/ lol.
And yeah! I’ll chance you!

AAustin, that is actually one of the most helpful things i’ve read on this forum!
Thanks!
Well I did Snow Club for 4 years which is essentially a group of kids who snowboard or ski together for a Recreation Council, but I’m not sure if that really counts. haha:/
As for languages, I took 2 years of French and 2 years of Latin. Our school’s language teachers were a bit… sub par.

Honestly, I’d say your chances are looking excellent. the only think that stuck out to me was your GPA, but you said you go to a highly-competitive school, so that’s understandable. :)

Could you chance me? My thread’s still on the first page of JHU’s section of CC.

thanks:) one chance coming right up!
