AP: Junior Year- Chemistry, Statistics
Senior Year- Biology, Calc AB, Euro
Haven't taken any of them yet, but obviously hoping for a 5 on all.

EC:
Co-President of Kids for Kids- Me and a friend presented this club to student council and got it approved. It is now very successful and we make thousands of dollars a year. All proceeds that the club raises goes towards buying Backpacks and school supplies for children in Trenton, NJ who are unable to afford them.

Peer Leader - an extremely selective program.

Red Cross Youth Council- elected to organize events for the American Red Cross of Central New Jersey.

Project Pride- also required an intensive application. We go to the middle school and work with a group of less social students on communication and teamwork skills.

Founders Day- volunteer at the township carnival every year.

Red Cross Club

STAND (not sure if I would even consider myself an "active" member)

NHS? (Waiting to hear back, but not worried)

Spring break I am attending a trip to New Orleans to rebuild the community and work at a soup kitchen and all that jazz (no pun intended).

Work Experience:

Teachers: Both will be good. I am very close to both teachers.

Visiting the school this summer and will definitely let the admissions office know.
Also plan on interviewing with the admissions office while there.

Attend an EXTREMELY competitive school district in NJ.
Applied for Financial Aid?: Yes
Intended Major: Engineering
State (if domestic applicant): NJ

Hooks (URM, first generation college, research, etc.): First generation, single parent, Jewish? (I'm guessing no).

Let me know what you think! Please be honest, but dont need to be rude about it. What areas do you think I need to work on?

Oh and as of now, I am planning on applying ED. It is possible to change though.

There is no EA for Northwestern right?

bumppppp

Chance! Anybody?

Honestly your app is looking a heck of a lot better than mine did and I was accepted Early Decision this year. I’d say keep up the good work and focus on writing stellar admissions essays when the time comes. I will point out that I applied to Weinberg College of Arts and Sciences as a Biological Sciences major while you’re applying to a completely different college (Medill) [not sure how that might affect it], but I would say that for now you look to be on the right track :)

Chance anybody?! Please!
Bump!

I generally agree with Mistee (except engineering is McCormick, not Medill). Your ACT is fine. It would definitely help to get that GPA (UW) closer to 3.8, especially if you are applying RD. I think your ECs are fine, no more, no less. As for hooks, your assumption is correct, being Jewish is definitely not a hook.
You are a competitive candidate among many competitive candidates.
Good luck.

Thanks. WCASParent. I’m planning to apply ED as of now, but that might change. Columbia is my first choice school and I’m almost sure that I wouldnt get in if I didnt apply ED there (and even then it is still a reach), so I’m worried about giving up my ED for Columbia and not getting in RD at Northwestern. What do you think?

Will chance back!

Personally, I would never have wanted my daughter to go to Columbia over NU, but one of the reasons is that we are from NY and I thought she would get more out of college if she left the NY area. Even that aside, though, I just happen to like NU better than Columbia, although both are absolutely first rate schools.
Good luck whatever you decide.
