I'm currently a junior in high school and I am going to apply to Boulder next year. I go to a public blue ribbon high school in Illinois. My weighted GPA will be at about 3.95 (could be a tad higher if I keep my current grades) after this semester is over (4.0 scale). I took the ACT and got a 28 composite with a 30 in Math and English. I'm going to be applying to the business school. I'm confident I will get into Boulder, but my question is: Do you think I will qualify for the Chancellor's Scholarship? I feel like I stand a very good chance at it, but I would like to get other opinions on the matter so I am better prepared. Also a side not; both my parents went to Boulder and my brother is currently a sophomore there.

So what do you guys think? Do I stand a good chance at receiving the Chancellor's Scholarship?

It depends on the stats of the students who apply the same year you are applying. Four years ago when my son applied to CU (he is now finishing his junior year), he had a 4.0 GPA UW, 4.22 GPA and ACT of 31 and he was awarded the Chancellor’s scholarship. I think it is given to the top 25 percent of out of state applicants.

I’m not which sure it’s that black and white. My son’s year - which was a couple years ago - he applied and got in, but received zero merit. OOS. Had higher stats that those of the poster above. Both GPA and test score higher. Excellent EC’s. Received a couple other full ride offers to other schools but zip to CU. I read other threads that year - and there were others with lower stats who received the Chancellor’s. He visited. He applied. Not sure why he didn’t receive anything. Just fyi. I would have back up plans if you can’t afford full tuition for OOS.

I understand it’s based on the top 25% of the students accepted and I know there’s no real definitive answer to this type of question. I was more aiming to see what you think my chances of getting the scholarship is. From what I understand, the scholarship is given purely off of GPA and ACT/SAT scores. So do you think a 3.95 GPA and 28 on the ACT stands a good chance based off your past experience, your own opinion, etc.?

Ok - I"ll say it again. My son had higher GPA than you and a much higher ACT and got nothing. I would be shocked if he was not in top 10% of applicants, much less top 25%. So again, I do not think it’s that black and white.
