Do you know if the NY event this Sunday is just for kids or does a parent go too?
Can you report back how it was at the reception? My daughter was invited to the Nor Cal one but might not be able to make it. I don’t want her to miss out any scholarships, etc. just because she can’t attend. Thanks!
I was invited but have no idea if i got into the honors program but the reason im going is the free food. Momtwin I reccomend that you tell your daughter to go because of the food and also the ability to meet people and ask random questions about the university.
Reception was wonderful. Senior representatives of UCSB and alums spoke about research, atmosphere, etc. They announced that all invited kids were admitted. No discussion of scholarships, to reply to your question.
@momLA2018
Thank you so much for letting us know. Good luck to your child!
And to you! I actually am a mom of twins too so I am quite busy this year!
@MomLA2018 I am actually a twin myself, and have my youngest D graduating this year, and my oldest D 3 years ago. Hang in there!
Hi. I attended the reception at dc. Do you know when will we get acceptance letter? I thought the admission officer said we gonna receive the golden folder shortly. But when is “shortly”? Thanks.
Does a chancellor invite automatically mean accepted into honors?
Can anyone describe what happened at the reception please?
I am from Norcal but can’t make it to the San Jose one next week.
My friend went to the reception. He told me that they made all of the participants stand and said “One more thing, you all got in!!” so yeah, we got in. Hurray…
SPOILER ALERT
For Chancellor Reception!!!
SoCal/Los Angeles Reception
My son attended the Chancellor Reception and the Dean of Admissions had all the student attendees stand up and then announced their acceptance! This is for everyone that received a Chancellor Invitation whether they were present or not.
They also said that the portal will update March 20 and Financial Aid would be available through the portal following a few days later around March 22.
The event was well attended and they did a nice job in showcasing the school. After the main intro, greeting from Chancellor Yang and a Q & A from faculty, there was a breakout session where you could select Research or Faculty driven sessions.
@Lorshim1965 Sounds so wonderful. Did they mention about honors? Or is it not a given?
Does Chancellor’s Reception invite mean an applicant is in the top X% of UCSB’s applicant pool? If so, top 20%? top 10%?
I thought I saw a post about it earlier in the UCSB forum, but cannot find it now.
@parent365. I believe last year they said it was top 15% and Regents was top 2%
@lkg4answers Thanks. Turns out the 15% for UCSB Chancellor’s was mentioned in a UCLA thread of all places, and another poster over there confirmed that they said this year at the Southern Cal event that Chancellor’s was top 15% and Regents was top 1.5% of the pool.
@parent365 It is interesting to go through last year’s acceptance thread and click on the people who received Regents and see where they ended up going to college. If they offer to 1.5%, I wonder what percentage accepts the offer.
Hey, I was unable to attend the ceremony today in Los Angeles because my mom could not get the day off. Did anyone attend? If so what happened? Did they announce anything important?
What’s the dress code for the Reception? We may attend the Norcal Reception this Sunday.
Wondering the same thing ^^ what did most people wear? I’m going to the NorCal reception tmrw
