So if I got this invitation, can I tell people I got into UCSB officially? I just don’t want to jinx myself. Thanks.
@aeskimo LOL me too
My Son got invite from UCSB’s Chancellors reception.
Does UC Berkeley does the Chancellors reception? I am wondering if he did not get one from UC Berkeley does that mean he is rejected?
@CantbelieveNJ Berkeley only accepts about 2% of the students they will eventually accept at this point. Not getting an acceptance now doesn’t mean he won’t be accepted in late March. Congratulations on the UCSB’s Chancellors invitation.
Ynotgo, Thank you but, are you sure of the UC Berkeley stat of 2%? I understand top 2,000 admits already received news of admit for Uc Berkeley (according to UC Berkeley admit thread on CC).
Hmm, @CantbelieveNJ, no I’m not sure. I read that in someone’s post and didn’t check. Oops.
If they have just admitted 2000 students early and last year they admitted a total of 14,400 freshmen per their press release, then I guess they have admitted about 14% of students early. (2000 is 2% of the entire pool of applicants.)
Last year’s Regent’s newsletter said there were 247 new Regent’s students. Common Data Set for the previous year says 5550 new freshmen enrolled. So that puts % of Regent’s students at Berkeley at about 4.5%.
I don’t think we know how many of the early admits were Regent’s candidates, because we don’t know what the yield is among students invited for Regents. So, I think that also means we don’t know what % of students invited for Regent’s interviews get Regents.
Does this mean I have been accepted? Just received one. Also, in SoCal if that matters.
I just received one as well… I’m a little skeptical if it means i got in or not haha
If I do not get and will not probably get, does it mean I’m likely rejected? I mean, my gpa, 4.08, test score, 1410, are decent, but not enough for reception, nor are my ECs and Essays. How many students from accepted get the reception?
@HomewithKevin: Only a select few applicants get the Chancellor Reception invite. There are still plenty of accepted applicants that are not invited so no worries until March.
Frequently Asked Questions::
What is the purpose of the UCSB Chancellor’s Receptions?
The receptions provide you and your family with the opportunity to meet UCSB faculty, staff and alumni who will introduce you to opportunities on campus. Our goal is to inform you about the excellent opportunities for academic, personal and professional growth at UCSB so that you can make an informed college choice.
Does this mean I have been admitted? Who was invited to the reception?
Your invitation does not indicate that you have been admitted. However, invitations were only sent to our highest achieving applicants in select regions.
Must I attend in order to be considered for admission to UCSB?
You are not required to attend in order to be considered for admission. The receptions are designed to provide information about UCSB.
Dates for 2017 receptions:
Saturday March 4 - Washington DC
Sunday, March 5 - New York City
Saturday, March 11 - Costa Mesa
Sunday, March 12 - Los Angeles
Sunday, March 19 - San Jose
Wait but I heard a story about some kid from out of state that was denied even after being invited to the reception…I’m so terrified. Do you think that was some sort of mistake? I don’t want that to happen to me
@eaa7390 were you invited to all the receptions, including the ones in California? If so, you theoretically could choose to attend the one in LA. Last year, everyone who attended the LA reception was asked to stand up and were “surprised” with information that all of them were accepted to UCSB. Therefore, if you choose to go to LA, you would be “surprised,” too. Logically, therefore, if nothing changes from last year, everyone who has been invited to a UCSB Chancellor’s Reception has been admitted… Congratulations!
@svetoy So, invited to the Chancellor’s reception but as we all know there is no mention of admissions in the invite (FYI - the official paper invite looks like a UCSB graduation announcement and lists 5 different reception locations). Anyways, when I emailed Admissions, this was the vague response I received: “Congratulations on your invitation to our Chancellor’s Reception! This means that you were a top applicant. While we will not release admissions decisions until late March, the Reception is there to provide you and your family the opportunity to meet UCSB faculty, staff and alumni who will introduce you to campus departments and student services. The reception should help you decide if UCSB is the right campus for you if you are admitted. I will be at the Receptions and would be happy to introduce you to some of the unique aspects and departments that UCSB has to offer. Space is limited and the Receptions are filling quickly, so I recommend submitting your RSVP soon. This is one of our most popular events amongst students!”
Is this a veiled admissions decision or am I reading way too much into this?
@SoCalEloquence obviously, being invited to the Chancellor’s Reception is a good sign. Last year, attendees were informed that all who were invited were accepted! If this year is no different from last, you will be admitted to UCSB. It seems that UCSB wants to surprise the students at the Reception and try to recruit them. Don’t stress and enjoy the college application process as you decide on where you will be able to learn best for the next four years.
I got the same invitation in Feb this year too! I tried to rsvp but the spots were already filled and I got waitlisted. If you go, could you post about what happened at the reception? @eaa7390
@ss3450 Sure!! It’s one week from today–so excited!
@svetoy When you say that they will try to recruit you at the reception, do you mean that they will try to convince you to commit? I’m planning on committing if accepted!!
Yes, @eaa7390, they will have alumni who will share how wonderful UCSB was for them. They probably, however, will not have contracts ready for all attendees to sign LOL.
@eaa7390 hey there! have fun at the chancellor’s reception next week, I’m going to the one on the 11th! do you mind letting us know what the outcome is? :-SS
