One of my friends told me she went to an orientation for UCSB today and said like everyone who was invite was accepted. Does that mean that if you weren't invited, you didn't get in?

nope, it doesn’t it just means everyone who was invited did get in.

(which means i got in , but i didn’t attend the reception ahha)

UCSB knows that its top applicants are going to get accepted to other good UCs and other schools. The reception is a way to give a bit of a pep talk to the strongest students to encourage them to consider UCSB when they make their decision. If you didn’t get invited it doesn’t mean you won’t get in, though.

Was this the little invite card that came in the mail for “high stats applicants?”

Actually mikemac, I’m not so sure that’s how it works. I think its just for students that are exemplary in one of their sections of criteria. For example, I was invited to join CCS Math, and I got the Chancellor’s invite as well. However, I was rejected from UCLA, UCSD and UC Davis.

I went but I already knew I had been accepted because I have ELC. The reception was exactly to invite all the applicants with high achievements to recruit them. They were actually pretty blunt about it. There were about 80 to 100 students invited. Those are just not even 1% of the 20000 that got accepted. Though due to budget cuts they stated the acceptance rate dropped to 41%, sat avg. 1910, and average gpa 4.11

Thanks for the info, I’d be interested in analyzing the stats. Looks like I guessed the correct admission rate based on the 20% yield rate :)

MedalLily, do you mean that there were 80-100 students who attended the reception? Or that 80-100 were invited?

Only 80-100 attended the reception. I’m sure a few more were invited but didn’t attend. you have to rsvp n space is limited.

MedalLily, sorry, I didn’t phrase that very well. My daughter was invited but couldn’t attend.

What I was curious about is, did they mention the actual number of Regents Scholars admitted for 2010? Thanks!

They didn’t mention an exact number but did mention they were within the 2% of admitted applicants.
