Hey I'm a rising senior who's interested in UPitt. I was wondering if I had a good chance at the full tuition chancellor's scholarship based off my stats. I was also wondering what the best programs in UPitt are. I'm interested in business/law specifically.
Stats: GPA: 94
SAT I- cr/m/w: 710/770/800 SAT II: mathII/bio/US: 760/730/730
APs: Bio-5, Lang-5, US-5, Euro-5, Microeconomics-4, Macroeconomics-4
Thanks for reading :)

Your SAT scores are in the range but remember NOTHING is guaranteed. Students with higher scores/stats have gotten nothing while students with lower scores/stats have received the scholarship. It will depend upon what Pitt is looking for. Apply and see what happens.

Chancellor’s is more about ECs, essays, and recs. Your stats will get you the full-tuition and invite to apply for Chancellor’s, but once you’re in the group competing for THAT scholarship, your stats are just average

thanks pitt2014…my ECs are actually a better part of my app.
ECs:
-Varsity Tennis Team Captain, DECA Regional President, Model UN Officer/Chair, Mock Trial Team Captain, currently interning at NY Senator Schumer’s office

-Awards: projected NMF (229 score), DECA National Finalist and 3x State Winner, Williams College Book Award, National Spanish Exam Silver Medalist, District Business Incentive Award

Are these competitive EC’s, assuming I write strong essays

I think that they ask about 400 to apply, invite about 100 to campus for interviews, and select about 10. My guess is that you will be invited to apply for it.

Surprised no one said it - APPLY EARLY!!

It seems those who applied earlier had a better shot at scholarships thn some with equal or better stats that applied later.

You have a very good shot at full tuition, however Chancellor’s depends on the additional essays and interview so there’s no way to predict getting the Chancellor’s from just your stats.

Ditto to all of the above. Most who are invited to apply have a profile much like yours. The Chancellors seem to be based more on intangibles, if you will. They are looking for students who have something that goes beyond the list of achievements. Qualities that can’t be measured by numbers or a chart.

Wait there’s a difference between full tuition and the chancellor’s scholarship??? Can someone explain that?

The full tuition scholarship is much more common and is decided almost completely on numbers and earliness of application.

Chancellor’s is full tuition, room and board and only about 10-12 incoming students are Chancellor’s scholars every year.

Chancellor’s requires an interview plus additional application. It is a complete full-ride. It is similar to the DuPont or the Jefferson Scholar at UVA.

oh wow…does anyone know how much room and board is in comparison to tuition at Pitt?

Are you OOS or in-state? We are OOS and tuition is almost $26,000 a year. Room & board depends upon the meal plan and where you end up living (single, suites etc.) so figure about another $10,000 or so.

Agreed, R&B is in the range of about $10k.

I’m OOS from NY so that means $10,000/yr unless I get the scholarship. Thanks for responding so quickly

Runi27 - yes that’s about right. We are OOS from Ny and is somewhere in the high 9000s. But that’s half as much as any SUNY. Son got full tuition from Pitt and only SUNY to give him money was $4000 from Albany.

Really? Wow…I thought getting full tuition at a SUNY was easier…good to know. Thanks DonnaMom

The SUNYs are not so generous. And that is an understatement.

Runi27 - my son only applied to 2 because he really did not want to go SUNY. got the 4000 from Albany and nothing from Bing though he did get into honors there.q
Qq

Yeah I don’t really want to go to a SUNY either, but they’re part of my “safety list”
My sister got full tuition to a couple SUNYs since she was a NMSF…do they not do that anymore, because I’m pretty sure I will be an NMF (229)
